Do you want to help strengthen legal certainty? At the National Board of Forensic Medicine (Rättsmedicinalverket), experts within forensic medicine, forensic chemistry, forensic genetics, and forensic psychiatry collaborate to provide the judicial system with the answers it needs. Every detail can be crucial, and whether you work directly with analyses and investigations or in a supporting role, you contribute to a legally secure society.
Are you a driven, solution-oriented, and collaborative leader seeking new challenges? The National Board of Forensic Medicine is in a development phase with increased demands for legal governance, collaboration, security, and operational development. We are now looking for a Chief Legal Counsel who wants to help develop the Board and take responsibility for its legal operations.
Your Role
As Chief Legal Counsel, you are the agency's highest legal representative and are responsible for leading, coordinating, and developing the legal work across the entire agency. You report directly to the Director General and are part of the agency's management group. You also serve as the unit manager for the Legal Unit, consisting of approximately 15 employees. The unit has overall responsibility for, among other things, legal matters as well as archives and registry.
In the role of Chief Legal Counsel, you lead and develop the agency's legal governance and legal support. You ensure quality, legal certainty, and consistency in legal assessments and positions, and are responsible for providing legal advice to the entire operation. You drive and coordinate the work on remits and legal development, and support the agency's work within the legal field. Together with other managers within the agency, you represent the National Board of Forensic Medicine in contacts with other actors within the state administration. You contribute to the development of processes, collaboration, and internal governance, and lead change and development work in close cooperation with other parts of the agency. You are also responsible for producing the governing documents for the Legal Unit. The position also includes administrative responsibility for systems within the IT area.
The role combines legal leadership with operational development and strategic change work in a multifaceted and knowledge-intensive organization. You work with complex and sometimes security-sensitive issues where high demands are placed on judgment and the ability to make well-balanced legal assessments. Furthermore, you are a clear employer representative and work in accordance with the agency's manager and employee policy as well as the Swedish government's value base.
Qualifications
- Law degree
- Several years of experience in qualified legal work in a state authority
- Registrar training or equivalent experience working in a court
- Experience in legal governance, qualified application of law, and legal development work
- Several years of experience in leading others
- Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience from the Government Offices (Regeringskansliet)
- Experience in legal areas relevant to the National Board of Forensic Medicine's operations
- Experience in change management and organizational development
Personal Attributes
To succeed in the role, you need to have a holistic view of the operations and an understanding of the environment in which the National Board of Forensic Medicine operates. You drive and develop the legal work based on the needs of the operations and thrive working at both strategic and operational levels. Furthermore, you are proactive, take responsibility for results, and prioritize what is important.
You are a secure and stable leader who shares your knowledge and supports others to achieve common goals. You are good at collaborating and creating trusting relationships within and outside the organization, have good judgment, and possess very good communication skills.
We will place great emphasis on personal attributes.
