Join us in improving the environment of our lakes and waterways!

We are looking for two employees: one with a main focus on restoration and sub-measure programs for better water in one of the county's main catchment areas, and one to develop background material and test a new method for classifying valuable waters. One position is permanent, the other is a fixed-term appointment.

The Fisheries Unit

You will be part of the Fisheries Unit, which is one of five units within the Nature Department. The unit consists of nineteen employees with great interest and drive. The unit handles water and fishery issues from a broad perspective and collaborates closely with other units, not least the Water Unit. At the Fisheries Unit, we contribute to the combined effort in the county's lakes and waterways, where the unit has a special responsibility for driving fish care and restoration and coordinating the county's NAP (National Action Plan) work. Other important areas of work include managing fish and fishing in Lake Vättern and conducting fish surveys. Our employees have significant autonomy and high job satisfaction, which we value and constantly work to maintain and develop.

Job Responsibilities

Sweden is investing in increasing efforts to reduce eutrophication problems, restore physically impacted water environments, recreate wetlands, and adapt hydropower to the environment through various measures. These measures are needed to achieve local, regional, national, and international environmental goals. The County Administrative Board in Jönköping is far ahead, but needs to step up the work even further, hence the search for new, engaged, and competent employees to strengthen our efforts.

We work with clear goal orientation and distribute tasks among ourselves based on competence, interest, and opportunities. The work is organized in teams, and the new positions will be part of the restoration team. The main focus of the positions is described below, but the tasks will be adapted to your competence and experience.

Restoration and Measure Planning

You will participate in measure planning and the development of catchment area-based measure programs. The work involves creating descriptions of impact, values, ongoing measure work, and prioritizing measure needs in collaboration with neighboring counties, municipalities, and other actors for one to two main catchment areas in the county. You will participate in anchoring the plan and driving the implementation of environmental improvement measures in our lakes and waterways.

You will also work concretely on achieving the restoration of physical impacts, primarily in watercourses. Other potential tasks include participating in and evaluating various types of fish surveys, including gillnet surveys.

Valuable Waters

You will contribute to developing background material and testing a new method for classifying valuable waters. The material will be used as a basis for prioritizing the protection and restoration of water and as a knowledge base for the County Administrative Board and municipalities when handling cases related to water. The work involves handling large datasets and geographic information in GIS.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a university degree in natural sciences/engineering or equivalent, including subjects such as biology, limnology, fisheries biology, hydrology, environmental science, or ecosystem technology.

Previous experience or advanced knowledge in fish care, measure work in water environments, especially physical restoration, coordination, project management, or implementation and evaluation of fish surveys is meritorious. Previous work at a government agency as well as knowledge in hydrological calculations/modeling, GIS, and experience handling large and complex datasets in Excel is also meritorious.

The position requires that you can express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. A B-class driver's license is meritorious.

We place great importance on your personal qualities. You will collaborate both internally and externally, so you need to have good teamwork skills. You need to be structured but also flexible as several different tasks will be included in the positions. You are responsible, have good judgment, and are engaged in the subject matter with the ability to independently prioritize and drive tasks to completion.

Conditions

The positions are full-time. One position is permanent, and one is a special fixed-term appointment of approximately 6 months. We apply a 6-month probation period as a rule for our permanent positions. Start date as soon as possible after agreement.

Other

Work samples will be used in the selection process.

Similar positions are also being recruited for the Water Unit; please apply for those as well!
