University of Gothenburg meets society's challenges with diverse knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.

Extensive research and teaching are conducted at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy across broad knowledge areas – from molecule to human. The department consists of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a project assistant for an intermittent employment, located at the Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

Our research focuses on how the brain develops and functions, and how changes in these processes can contribute to diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. We use zebrafish and human iPSCs (induced pluripotent stem cells) as model systems to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms that contribute to brain development and function, neuronal communication, and the consequences that disruptions in these may cause.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a colleague to supervise and care for the zebrafish used in research regarding the formation and function of the nervous system. We are looking for you who are motivated, driven, flexible, and passionate about caring for aquatic systems and enjoy freshwater fish. Here, you will work independently in a small team where communication and collaboration are crucial. The work involves fish maintenance, general oversight of aquarium functionality, and water quality. The work is performed on an hourly basis. You should be able to organize and independently carry out your daily work in consultation with your supervisor.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • You should be responsible and have good ability to work independently.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory.
  • Good communication skills in English (both spoken and written).
  • Understanding of and respect for animal welfare.
  • The work requires physical capacity to handle heavier objects, as the fish tanks weigh approx. 10 kg.

Merits:

  • Previous experience with zebrafish.
  • Experience with molecular biological methods, including qPCR and Western blot.
  • Previous work within neuroscience.
  • Technical skills.

Great importance is attached to personal suitability.
