About the Department

The Surgery department at Östra Hospital provides surgical care to the residents of Gothenburg and surrounding municipalities, as well as highly specialized care, primarily in gastrointestinal surgery, fulfilling both regional and national assignments. We have approximately 350 employees, including over 40 doctors. The department consists of three inpatient wards, a large outpatient clinic, and two administrative units. Development and teaching activities are ongoing within the department, and we conduct broad research covering both clinical studies and basic laboratory research.

The Colorectal Section is the largest colorectal unit in Sweden. We perform both routine and advanced colorectal surgery with a focus on cancer and IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). We have specific National High-Specialized Care (NHV) assignments within HIPEC and advanced pelvic surgery, including anal cancer, and contribute surgical expertise to other NHV assignments at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, such as endometriosis and intestinal failure. From the beginning of the year, we also hold the NHV assignment for reconstructive surgery in IBD. The regional collaboration is extensive, and the majority of the region's T4 surgeries are performed here, for example. In proctology, we are the referral center for complex fistula cases from the region.

As a university hospital, we conduct clinical teaching at all levels. At the section, we supervise medical candidates, resident doctors (AT), specialty trainees (ST) in surgery, as well as ST doctors/specialists from other specialties relevant to colorectal surgery. We conduct high-quality research in our clinical fields to drive development forward. We have researchers with both regional and national grants, and we welcome more research-active staff within the section. We have good opportunities to assist in supervising students and future doctoral candidates.

The section includes a care ward, a surgical clinic, a colorectal clinic, and a stoma clinic.

About the Position

As a Specialist Doctor, you will participate in the section's work in the operating room, on the ward, and in the clinic. On-call duties are included, as well as supervision of students. There are good opportunities for you to engage in research projects.

We offer a fixed-term contract for up to 6 months.
