We are looking for a University Lecturer in Practical Philosophy for a permanent full-time position at the Department of Philosophy, Lund University.

The Workplace and Academic Environment

The Department of Philosophy is a research-intensive unit with approximately 70 employees, distributed between practical and theoretical philosophy as well as cognitive science. We value knowledgeable and engaged teachers and offer top-tier education to our more than 250 students. The internationally recognized research in practical philosophy at Lund University has long contributed to areas such as value theory, philosophy of action, social ontology, rights theory, and moral responsibility.

Our educational focus lies in morality (moral philosophy, meta-ethics, applied ethics, rights theory), politics (political philosophy), practical rationality (action theory, decision theory), aesthetics, and philosophy of religion. We offer advanced-level courses that allow for specialization within the main field for master's degrees. Since 2014, we have collaborated with the Departments of Political Science and Economics to offer the popular undergraduate program in Practical Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).

Responsibilities

The incumbent will conduct teaching, research, and supervision in practical philosophy, and in collaboration with other staff, further develop the educational and research environment. The position of University Lecturer includes teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, as well as supervising advanced students and doctoral candidates. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English. The role may also include responsibility for the PPE program and internal/external trust-based assignments. The incumbent is expected to actively seek external research funding.

Qualifications

Requirements for eligibility:

• A completed PhD in practical philosophy or equivalent scientific competence/professional skill relevant to the subject matter and duties of the position.
• Documented pedagogical skill.
• Completion of a university pedagogical education of at least five weeks, or equivalent knowledge acquired otherwise. If special reasons exist, employment may be granted with the condition that the pedagogical education is completed within the first two years.
• Good documented ability to teach in Swedish. If this ability is lacking, it must be acquired within two years from the start of employment.
• Good documented ability to speak and write academic English.

The Faculty comprises seven departments and conducts extensive and varied activities in research and education. We have approximately 700 employees and 4,000 full-time equivalent students.

About the Department of Philosophy

The Department has approximately 80 employees and conducts research and education in three subjects: cognitive science, practical philosophy, and theoretical philosophy.
