At the Faculty of Humanities and Education, education and research are conducted within economics, music, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, behavioral sciences, and educational sciences, with a clear connection to society, culture, and democracy. Our research is conducted in dialogue with the surrounding society and contributes to critical knowledge development, Bildung (holistic education), and a deeper understanding of complex societal issues. Through our collaboration platforms, we bring together academia, the public sector, and business to jointly contribute to knowledge development and meet societal challenges. Education is offered at all levels and is grounded in scientific or artistic foundations and academic breadth. Together, we contribute to a sustainable, open, and knowledge-based society. Within the faculty, there are three departments where a total of approximately 420 people work. The Department of Educational Science and Art primarily conducts education within teacher training. The department also includes the Music and Opera College, which educates within music and opera. The research contributes new knowledge within Swedish education, music, and performing arts. The department also hosts the Mälardalen Competence Centre for Learning (MKL), which is the region's platform for collaboration regarding school development, teacher education, and research in educational sciences.

Responsibilities

As a University Lecturer, your main responsibilities are teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. Collaboration is an integrated part of the university's research and educational mission, and as a University Lecturer, you will actively contribute to the university's development work. The responsibilities also include general administration, competence development, and participation in daily operations, as well as work within the subject area and the department.

Teaching in special needs education across all teacher education programs as well as special needs teacher and special education teacher programs; course responsibility, course planning, and administration.

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for you who have demonstrated pedagogical skill and hold a Master's degree or equivalent competence.

The pedagogical skill must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogy education or equivalent knowledge is required. Those employed who lack higher education pedagogy education will be offered to undergo such training during employment within two and a half years. The higher education pedagogy education at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

For this position, the following eligibility requirements apply in addition to those established in the Employment Regulations at MDU: The applicant has good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria shall include both the degree of skill required for the position and the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, special weight will be placed on the following for this position:

  • Teacher's degree,
  • Special needs teacher or special education degree,
  • At least five years of professional experience as a teacher.

Qualifications for the position include experience working as a special needs teacher with a focus on language, reading, and writing.

In a comprehensive assessment of suitability, personal qualities are also weighed. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good work environment.
