Jönköping Municipality is a major employer with hundreds of different professional roles. We are growing in tandem with the municipality's development, as the population increases, more housing is built, and services expand. We are always looking for new skills – colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences, united by the common drive to create a better municipality to visit, live, work, and call home.

What do you dream of? If your answer is to educate tomorrow's global citizens, you have come to the right place. Here, you will find all the prerequisites for you as an engaged special needs teacher who wants to inspire a love for learning – every day, all the way!

Your new job

You work to promote health, prevent issues, and implement measures based on the decided mission description for your profession. Through cross-professional collaboration in the Student Health Team (EHT), we support students' development towards educational goals and contribute to creating accessible learning environments. Education in primary school must be equitable, meaning teaching must be adapted to the student's prerequisites and needs, starting from the student's background, previous experiences, language, and knowledge to promote continued learning. This is a significant and jointly challenging task that you, as a special needs teacher, take on with great engagement. Equity also means that teaching cannot be designed exactly the same for everyone. The special needs teacher and colleagues in the special team support primary school teachers in adapting teaching to individual students' needs and opportunities. This can be done in the classroom, in smaller groups, or individually. Kålgårdsskolan also has a driven language pedagogue who is an important part of the puzzle regarding teaching.

As a special needs teacher at Kålgårdsskolan, you are part of the Student Health Team, which consists of the principal, deputy principal, special needs teachers in Swedish and mathematics, a school counselor, a school nurse, and often a school psychologist. Your duties include close collaboration with the school's pedagogues regarding individual students who need special support. You supervise and support teachers in the work with pedagogical assessments, extra adaptations, and action plans. You conduct various types of tests and assessments which you, together with the Student Health Team and pedagogues, use as a basis and analyze to find the best prerequisites for each student and for teaching in the grades. Therefore, the special needs teacher is naturally part of the school development group.

An important part of the special needs teacher's work is also close contact with guardians. The special needs teacher independently leads necessary meetings included in the mission, such as collaborating with external actors and responsible for handovers regarding students in need of support. Student documentation in the student journal, participation in professional networks, and following current research are other important parts of the work.
