About the Unit

Air Staff A6 is seeking a Staff Officer for Frequency Planning to coordinate frequency planning and other matters concerning the electromagnetic spectrum within the Air Force. As the coordinator for the Air Force's frequency planning, you are indispensable in ensuring that Swedish and allied air forces can operate both within and outside Sweden's borders. You will be involved in planning missions and operations, both for training and active duty. Your planning creates the prerequisites for critical emitting systems to function where and when they need to.

Main Responsibilities

As a Frequency Handler, you are responsible for coordinating and developing the Air Force's frequency usage, both nationally and internationally. The role involves ensuring that the Air Force's operations have access to the frequencies required for exercises, missions, and daily operations, while also contributing to the long-term development of the Swedish Armed Forces' frequency management.

In this role, you will among other things:

  • Be responsible for the Air Force's frequency needs by handling and preparing cases, conducting frequency planning, and implementing and following up on changes related to the frequency usage of military aviation
  • Coordinate the Air Force's frequency needs during national and international exercises as well as operations abroad. You also support the Armed Forces' Frequency Office in planning exercises and missions, including handling the frequency needs of visiting air units
  • Be the Air Force's contact person and representative in frequency-related matters, both within the Swedish Armed Forces and in cooperation with external actors such as the Post and Telecom Authority, the Transport Agency, other armed forces, and international partners in the Nordic countries, Europe, and NATO
  • Provide support to the Air Force's units in matters concerning frequency needs and frequency utilization, and represent the Air Force in the Swedish Armed Forces' frequency working group
  • Contribute to the long-term development of the Swedish Armed Forces' frequency usage by developing strategic directions together with the Armed Forces' Frequency Office, based on future technological development, tactical development, and operational needs.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Trained Specialist Officer OR7 or Armed Forces Engineer
  • Post-secondary education in relevant fields such as IT, electrical or communication engineering, or work experience assessed to correspond to this level of knowledge
  • Work experience in radio and/or telecommunications
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English
  • Category B driver's license

Merits

Other

Employment type: Permanent military employment. The Swedish Armed Forces apply a six-month probationary period for those not already employed by the agency.

Information about the Swedish Armed Forces and the recruiting unit: The primary and largest task of the Air Staff is to support the Air Force Chief in leading all air wings and schools in the Air Force at all levels of the conflict spectrum. The Air Staff develops, plans, implements, and evaluates orders and directives issued by the Air Force Chief. The Air Staff consists of approximately 350 employees. The Air Force organizes and trains air, base, and command units and has the mission to monitor and protect Swedish airspace. This is a 24/7, year-round mission to ensure Sweden's integrity. Approximately 5,100 employees, both civilian and military, work within the Air Force.
