Job Description

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have developed drastically to transform our society and industry. For example, the performance of wireless networks has increased significantly thanks to AI. With increasing data volumes and model sizes, high-performance networks are also a crucial enabling technology for advanced AI applications. Wireless networks are therefore becoming AI-native.

The project will investigate key technologies for AI-enhanced wireless networks as well as advanced AI techniques within the networking domain. You will work on a project involving the interdisciplinary development of AI and wireless networks, focusing on theory and algorithm development. Concrete examples include optimized distribution of AI models in networks or AI-optimized wireless networks, such as semantic communication or AI-based optimization.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• You must have a strong track record of research results in the fields of AI and/or wireless networks, as evidenced by high-quality publications in leading journals or top AI conferences.
• You should have a strong background in communication/information theory, optimization, or AI models (e.g., large language models, reinforcement learning).
• Necessary knowledge/skills include excellent written and oral proficiency in English, as this is required in daily work.
• We appreciate that you have excellent ability to collaborate and lead projects.

Meritorious

• At the application deadline, no more than three years have passed since the PhD degree or an equivalent foreign degree was awarded.
• Knowledge and research experience in large language models.
• Scientific proficiency.
• Teaching ability.
• Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.

About the Position

The employment is permanent, but for a maximum of two years.

A postdoctoral position is a time-limited merit-based appointment with a main focus on research, intended as a first career step after doctoral studies.
