About Gällivare District Court

Gällivare District Court is Sweden's northernmost court. There are currently twelve employees, including two permanent judges. The court consists of a case division and an administrative division. The court adjudicates criminal and civil cases and handles a large number of other types of matters. The jurisdiction covers the municipalities of Gällivare, Kiruna, and Jokkmokk.

The mission of the court and its staff is to maintain a secure, efficient, and high-quality administration of justice. Working with us is meaningful and fulfills one of society's most important functions.

The court is located in central Gällivare but also has hearing facilities in Kiruna. From the court premises, you can see the low mountain Dundret, which is only a ten-minute drive away and offers access to ski slopes, ski tracks, cross-country skiing, and hiking. Ski tracks are also within walking distance of the court.

Responsibilities

As an acting District Court Judge (Tillförordnad rådman), you will play a central role in the court's adjudicative activities, responsible for ensuring that cases and matters are resolved efficiently and with high quality. You will be responsible for all types of cases and matters that arise at the district court. The role also includes mentoring notaries.

This position is considered valuable experience for a future permanent judge position.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment, you must have experience working as a member of a court or a prosecutor's office (fiskal) in a higher court, or have performed the duties of a higher court prosecutor for at least six months. It is an advantage if you are or have been a permanent judge or an appellate court assessor/administrative court assessor.

Otherwise, you must meet the requirements set out in the Swedish National Courts Administration's competency profile for permanent judges.

We are looking for you who are a skilled and analytical lawyer with a very good ability to see the big picture, as well as to identify, analyze, and solve legal challenges. Work at the district court is characterized by a high pace where many different issues need to be handled. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is inspired by varied and qualified work and who has the ability to tackle different questions and prioritize them appropriately. Of course, you treat parties and others appearing before the court in a manner that inspires confidence.

To be considered for employment, you must meet high demands regarding judgment, security awareness, and suitability. This means you uphold democratic values and the public sector values that govern the activities of the Swedish Courts. We require that you comply with current laws. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
