Stockholm – our capital city filled with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone who lives here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and different with us – for the people of Stockholm.
Culture is an important part of Stockholm's nervous system and touches millions of people every year. At the Department of Culture, we work together to strengthen cultural life in Stockholm.
We have an open working climate where employees are highly involved in development. Join us and contribute to Stockholm growing with culture!
The Music School operates throughout the entire city of Stockholm; see address and location in the job posting.
Welcome to us
The Department of Culture has approximately 1,000 employees and includes the Music School, Stockholm City Library, Liljevalchs Art Gallery, Stockholm Art, and the City Museum. The Events Department organizes large public events such as the Stockholm Culture Festival and the youth festival We Are Sthlm. The Department of Culture's activities have approximately 11 million visitors each year.
The Department of Culture works to ensure that the cultural offerings in Stockholm consist of a variety of different expressions, offerings, and opportunities, while also containing both breadth and excellence. The Department is responsible for the majority of municipally driven cultural activities and supports the independent cultural sector.
A challenge for the Department of Culture is to reach more people, and groups that we do not reach today. Everyone should feel welcome in our activities, which places high demands on the competence and engagement of our employees. We work actively with sustainability and strive for gender equality and diversity. We welcome applicants with different backgrounds and experiences.
In our world, culture is important. We need spaces for culture. Places that give room for play, creativity, and dreams. Rooms where one can discover, develop, and express oneself. Rooms for imagination!
We offer
At the Music School, children and young people between the ages of 6 and 22 have this space. Here they have the opportunity for their own creation in their spare time in one of the Music School's many subjects within music, singing, theater, musical, dance, circus, art, and media. Through various events, large and small, students can perform in front of an audience. Teaching takes place in our own premises with professional equipment as well as in schools throughout Stockholm.
Your role
Develop and lead music teaching with a focus on game music in groups for children and young people of different ages and knowledge levels. Introduce students to the history of game music, genres, composition techniques, and production tools. Work practically with creative projects where students create their own game music, sound effects, and interactive soundscapes. Encourage students' individual expression and interests within game music. Collaborate with colleagues within the Music School and contribute to a dynamic and inspiring learning environment.
Take responsibility for your student groups and foster good contact with students and their families.
In consultation with the manager, be responsible for scheduling and follow-up of schedules as well as administration.
Together with the manager, colleagues, and students, plan and actively participate in activities based on the Music School's goals and commitments, such as outreach activities, concerts, and performances.
Actively participate in meetings and further education.
Your work duties will also include developing activities in music with a focus on game music in group settings in open activities in outer city areas in districts in the north and south where participants have varying backgrounds and experiences. The work assignment is a collaborative assignment with various actors such as youth clubs, libraries, and cultural houses.
Your competence and experience
We are looking for you who have:
- A university education in music pedagogy within music, composition, sound design, or game development with a focus on music, or equivalent relevant competence assessed as equivalent.
- Good knowledge of the theory and practice of game music, with an understanding of different genres, platforms, and work processes.
- Experience with relevant production tools such as DAWs, notation software, and sound design tools.
- Knowledge of and preferably experience with group teaching for children and young people. By group teaching, we mean explicit group methodology based on the development of the individual student as well as the group.
Meritorious if you have:
- Experience working with game engines such as Godot, GDevelop, and Unreal Engine, especially with a focus on sound design, interactive music, and adaptive audio systems.
- Experience participating in or leading development projects as well as collaborating with external and internal actors.
- Experience working in socio-economically challenging areas and meeting participants with different backgrounds, experiences, and life situations.
