Do you want to grow with us?

Björknäs Adaptational Primary School is expanding its operations with an additional class and is therefore looking for a Special Educational Needs Teacher (SEN Teacher). Here, you will become part of a dedicated team with low staff turnover and high competence. We enjoy working together, support each other, and believe in every student's potential to develop. Your direct manager is trained as a special needs pedagogue and actively works to create good conditions for both students and employees. Here you will receive support, collegial learning, several SEN teacher colleagues, and excellent opportunities to develop professionally.

Welcome to Björknäs Adaptational Primary and Upper Secondary School

Björknäs Adaptational Primary and Upper Secondary School is for students with various disabilities. The school has an accessible playground shared with our adaptational preschool. At our adaptational primary school, we have three classes with five to seven students in each class, which allows for a high staff-to-student ratio and teaching where every child is given the right conditions to develop. We use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), clear pedagogy, and digital tools to increase the independence of our students. Read more about us here (#).

Your Role

In the role of SEN Teacher, you are the mentor for a class of five to six students with autism and moderate intellectual disability who primarily study subjects within the adaptational primary school curriculum. The class is mixed-age and currently consists of students in grades F-2 (preschool to grade 2). Over time, teaching may also take place in other classes within our adaptational primary and upper secondary school. Together with colleagues, you are responsible for the students' entire school day, which includes teaching, breaks, lunch, and transitions.

As a SEN Teacher, you teach all subjects except music and physical education. Teaching takes place both individually and in small groups. You are responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching based on the curriculum and the School Act. You observe, document, and follow up on the students' development. The role also includes writing pedagogical assessments and conducting and analyzing screenings and other mappings.

You play a central role in a work team at the primary school, where you supervise and mentor several student assistants in special pedagogical matters and daily pedagogical work. You work as a team but have close contact with the school's student health team, school leadership, and other work teams. Four additional SEN teachers and one special needs pedagogue with overall responsibility also work at the school. You meet regularly and collaborate regarding students, planning, assessment, pedagogical development, and systematic quality work.

You keep up to date with current research in special needs pedagogy and share your theoretical knowledge and pedagogical competence. The role also includes mentoring, development discussions, and ongoing contact with guardians. You lead meetings with students and guardians to inform and discuss selected interventions and collaborate regarding the students' needs with other actors, both within and outside the school.

Your Experience

For this position, you are required to have:

  • Teaching certification
  • Degree as a Special Educational Needs Teacher or Special Needs Pedagogue
  • Experience working as a SEN Teacher
  • Experience working at an adaptational school
  • Experience teaching students within the autism spectrum studying subjects at an adaptational school
  • Experience working with children/young people with intellectual disability (ID), motor impairment, and/or a combination of different neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD)
  • Experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
  • Good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

It is meritorious if you also have:

  • SEN Teacher education with specialization in intellectual disability
  • Experience supervising student assistants or similar
  • Good digital competence with experience working with digital learning materials
  • Knowledge of and experience working with clear pedagogy.

Is this you?

To succeed in the role, you need to have both the interest and ability to collaborate, communicate, and build good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. Your knowledge, professionalism, and relationship-building skills create security, trust, and a good foundation for learning. You are quick to take initiative and start activities without waiting for instructions. At the same time, you handle different tasks, working methods, and situations easily and adapt to changed circumstances, always with the best interests of the students and the operation in focus. As a leader, you are clear, secure, and responsive. You create engagement, participation, and joy in work for both students and student assistants. We place great importance on personal suitability.

What We Offer

Björknäs Adaptational Primary and Upper Secondary School offers you a pleasant and inspiring workplace in the nature-rich area of Saltsjö-Boo, near Björknäs center. Here you have easy access to public transport and good opportunities for free parking. We are a well-functioning operation with clear structures that we continuously develop to give our students the best possible conditions.

As a SEN Teacher with us, you will become part of a dedicated team of certified teachers, SEN teachers, and student assistants. You will collaborate with competent, solution-focused, and supportive colleagues who are happy to share experiences and believe in collegial learning. We offer continuous further education and internal training in AAC, clear pedagogy, and digital tools. You will also receive support from the central Child and Student Health Service in the form of specialist knowledge, systems, equipment, mentoring, and training. As a new employee, you will receive a thorough introduction and a mentor who supports you into the role.

As an employee of Nacka Municipality, you have access to benefits such as a wellness allowance of 3,000 SEK per year, the option to purchase SL public transport cards via net salary deduction, and a versatile internal support function.
