The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other things, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A key driving force at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the operations are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching responsibilities in several degree programs, standalone courses, and international master's programs within the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is approximately 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are a total of over 850 active staff members. The Research Assistant will perform computational analyses to investigate tumor development and treatment resistance in tumor samples and cell lines from brain tumor patients. This includes data from RNA-, ATAC-, and multi-omics single-cell sequencing, as well as datasets generated with cellular barcoding methods, epigenetic profiling methods (e.g., CUT&RUN), and genome-wide CRISPR screens.

Qualifications

The applicant must have a Master's degree in molecular biotechnology, computational biology, or bioinformatics. The applicant should have good knowledge of programming in R or Python, as well as practical experience in analyzing various types of sequencing data, including targeted sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, and whole-genome sequencing. Very good knowledge of English, both oral and written, is required.

Desirable/Additional Merits

Experience in analyzing single-cell-based RNA and ATAC sequencing data is considered a strong merit, particularly within research on high-grade gliomas and brain tumor biology/oncology. The ideal candidate also has experience processing and analyzing data from large-scale CRISPR screens, as well as interpreting results from screens based on targeted sequencing. Knowledge in image analysis in connection with organoid models is regarded as a strong merit. The ideal candidate is accustomed to working with high-performance computing (HPC) and is familiar with version control systems such as Git.
