Högskolan Väst is seeking a University Lecturer in Industrial Automation

The Department of Industrial Automation at the Department of Engineering Sciences conducts teaching in automation and robotics linked to several educational programs, such as Automation Engineering (undergraduate level), Robotics and Automation (master's level), and AI and Automation (master's level), as well as standalone courses and continuing education for both students and professionals. The department also participates in teaching within other programs at various levels, from vocational higher education to doctoral studies. All education is characterized by a strong emphasis on practical components and close collaboration with industry.

Research within the industrial automation research environment focuses on smart and human-centered automation with a particular focus on flexibility, including the use of multi-agent systems (MAS) and Plug & Produce. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of control strategies and their impact on system flexibility and human interaction. In the long term, the research aims to develop flexible and intelligent production systems that can largely understand goals and adapt independently. The activity is carried out in close collaboration with Swedish industry.

To strengthen the educational activities, we are now looking for a University Lecturer who wants to play a central role in further developing and driving the education within the department's profile areas, thereby contributing to shaping tomorrow's engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement methods that link automation to global sustainability goals and create solutions that benefit both industry and the environment.
  • Teach at undergraduate and advanced levels in the department's relevant subjects, primarily linked to industrial automation, control systems, pneumatics and hydraulics, and machine safety.
  • Supervise and examine students' thesis projects to support the next generation of engineering talent.
  • Actively contribute to the development of courses and educational programs at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.
  • Actively contribute to the development of the department and Högskolan Väst.

Qualifications for the position of University Lecturer:

  • Documented pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act). Applicants who lack pedagogical merits from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university's qualification requirements, although this may have been acquired in ways other than within an academic environment.
  • Completed higher education pedagogy training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education pedagogy training is missing, employment may still take place provided that the employee completes the training during the first two years of employment.
  • A doctoral degree in production technology, automation, robotics, or equivalent scientific competence or another professional skill that is significant with regard to the subject content of the position and the duties to be included in the position (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act).

For this position, the following is also required:

  • Experience in conducting teaching in the field of automation, control technology, and robotics.
  • Experience in participating in industrial research projects.
  • Experience in developing, conducting, and following up on courses in the field of automation at undergraduate and advanced levels.

Qualifications that are meritorious for the position include:

  • Pedagogical education beyond the mandatory higher education pedagogy training.
  • Work experience, primarily within automation and control systems, relevant to the position linked to the manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in planning and conducting education at different levels within the automation field.
  • Experience in teaching in both Swedish and English.
  • Experience in conducting research in the field of flexible automation.
  • Documented experience of collaborating with various project partners such as academia and industry.

Assessment Criteria:

In the assessment, pedagogical and scientific competence will be weighted equally and placed first, and collaboration competence, other professional skills, and administrative competence will be weighted equally and placed second, with other assessment criteria placed third.

Other:

The position is a permanent position. A six-month probationary period may apply.

The selection process may include trial lectures, work tests, interviews, and reference checks.

Applications are made digitally via our recruitment tool. The applicant is responsible for ensuring the application is complete in accordance with the advertisement and that it is available to the university no later than the last application date.

We decline all direct contact with staffing and recruitment agencies as well as sellers of recruitment advertisements.
