About the role

At Erikslund Special School (Anpassad grundskola), we welcome students from grades 1-9 from across Borås every day. We engage in extensive collaborations with the municipality's community organizations and strive to provide our students with an experience-rich education on their own terms. Well-structured teaching and faith in the students' inherent will and ability to learn are our starting points. The school also offers an after-school center (fritidshem) and short-term supervision (KTS) for all our students.

We are now moving into Borås City's newest school. This means we are relocating to completely new facilities with excellent conditions for providing special education. Together with your colleagues, you will now have the chance to help build the operations to make them the best they can be.

Responsibilities

You will work as a student assistant in special education. In this role, it involves creating a safe and educational environment for our students as part of a team, where learning and development are at the center. Special education is a activity adapted to the student's needs, which also places demands on you as a student assistant to meet the students with an attentive, structured, and low-arousal approach.

We learn from each other, with the student always in focus. You will, in collaboration with the responsible teacher, support students in daily classroom activities as well as in the after-school center and KTS (short-term supervision). The responsibilities may include adapting and structuring the school day for individual students based on the class teacher's basic plan, which requires you to be solution-oriented and flexible.

The duties are divided between working in the classroom during school hours and working at the after-school center/KTS before and after school hours.

Qualifications

We would like you to have relevant upper secondary education (child and youth care/student assistant training) or alternatively a support pedagogy degree from a folk high school or university college. You want to work with students in special education. Your approach is characterized by the belief that children do right if they can. You are a secure and calm adult who is skilled at adapting your interaction and communication to create an inclusive environment. Since the workday can change quickly, you are flexible, proactive, and have a good ability to adjust and think outside the box when conditions change.

Requirements for the position:

• Experience working with children in need of special support.
• Knowledge of and experience in meeting children with neuropsychiatric functional variations (NPV) and intellectual disabilities.
• Ability and tools to meet children in emotional distress in a calm and low-arousal manner.
• Good ability to express yourself clearly in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
• Good teamwork skills and an attentive, structured approach.

Merits:

• Previous experience working within special education.
• Experience working with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
• Good knowledge of or experience with PECS/TAKK (Picture Exchange Communication System).
