Your Role

As a counselor at the Youth Clinic in Uppsala City, you will primarily work with individual conversations with young people aged 12–22 who seek out the service on their own. Young people come to the youth clinic for sexual, psychological, and/or social issues. The work at the youth clinic is always team-based, where different professions support each other to work holistically.

An important part of the job is assessing the need for support and appropriate level of care, helping the young person to the right authority, and establishing contacts and collaborations regarding the young person with parents, municipality, social services, school, primary care, or psychiatry. You should have a good ability to meet young people in a curious and trust-building manner and work with our mission, which mainly involves giving advice and support, but also, based on a good alliance, conducting limited treatment interventions in the area of sexual health. An important part of the work consists of outward-facing and preventive efforts in the form of school visits and information about the service to both young people and professionals in the local area. You will participate in joint supervision and meetings with other counselors at the youth clinics in the county.

Our Operations

The youth clinics in Uppsala County belong to the Primary Care and Health administration in Region Uppsala. In total, there are 9 youth clinics in the county, and we target young people aged 12-22 who seek help on their own.

The clinics are often located in premises connected to various health centers around the county, but not always. At the clinics, counselors work together with midwives and doctors. We also have nurses and assistant nurses at some of our clinics. Together, we help young people achieve good health physically, psychologically, socially, and sexually. We strive to treat every young person respectfully and competently in a welcoming atmosphere. The youth clinic targets young people directly and their specific needs. The youth clinic always works on behalf of the young people themselves, and adherence to the young person is high. The clinic in Uppsala City is located in pleasant premises in central Uppsala. The clinic in Heby is located in the same premises as the health center.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed healthcare counselor and have several years of experience in psychosocial work with children and youth, preferably from social services and/or youth clinics. Additional qualifications include basic psychotherapy training (step 1) as well as experience from treatment work. Sexological competence, such as good knowledge of LGBTQI+ issues, is of course highly meritorious for work at a youth clinic.

As a person, you should be genuinely interested in working with young people, want to work in interdisciplinary teams, and want to develop the operations. You are secure, communicative, and flexible in your professional role. Your ability to establish contacts and collaborate with young people, parents, and other actors is very important. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
