The Social Insurance Code stipulates that there shall be a Public Legal Aid Officer for social insurance. Social insurance is administered by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) and the Swedish Pension Agency (Pensionsmyndigheten). The Public Legal Aid Officer's task is to promote the development of case law within the field of social insurance by appealing decisions made by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and the Swedish Pension Agency to the general administrative courts, with the aim of achieving uniform application of the law. The Public Legal Aid Officer for the public interest holds an independent position in their legal proceedings in relation to the authorities.

The Public Legal Aid Officer is appointed by the Government but is employed by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. The Officer serves as the head of the five lawyers employed in the Public Legal Aid Officer's office. The office is located at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency's headquarters at Telefonplan in Stockholm. The appointment as Public Legal Aid Officer is for a fixed term of six years, with the possibility of extension.

We are looking for you who is a qualified lawyer with

  • experience from the judiciary,
  • very good knowledge of social insurance regulations,
  • knowledge of proceedings in general administrative courts,
  • a results-oriented mindset,
  • excellent judgment,
  • very good proficiency in Swedish and English,
  • a law degree.

You must also have the ability to

  • work independently with great integrity,
  • build relationships and collaborate,
  • be a good communicator with strong social skills.

It is an advantage if you have

  • leadership experience,
  • knowledge of EU law.
