Job Description
The main duties of a postdoctoral position are to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but no more than 20% of working hours.
The research project concerns the development of a fast X-ray light modulator for use at synchrotron facilities. The purpose of the modulator is to enable time-resolved measurements on the nanosecond scale, based on continuous (steady-state) techniques. The modulator will be tested at MAX IV, Elettra, and other synchrotron facilities.
The project is funded by the Foundation for Strategic Research. A more detailed description is available at: https://strategiska.se/forskning/pagaende-forskning/instrument-technique-and-method-development-2024/projekt/14310/ (https://strategiska.se/forskning/pagaende-forskning/instrument-technique-and-method-development-2024/projekt/14310/)
The appointment consists mainly (>80%) of research work, including supervision of master's and doctoral students, with opportunities for teaching and administrative tasks.
The project is carried out in collaboration with the company Sectris AB (https://sectris.tech (https://sectris.tech)) and is conducted within the research group in physical chemistry at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström.
Qualifications
The applicant must have:
- A PhD, or equivalent, in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field, with experience in relevant areas. The degree must be completed no later than at the time of the employment decision. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their PhD no more than three years before the application deadline. The three-year timeframe is calculated from the last application day. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been completed earlier. The three-year period can be extended in cases of illness, parental leave, trade union duties, or similar.
- At least two years of research experience in the practical (hands-on) development of experimental techniques. Experience limited to instrument responsibility or maintenance, or solely data analysis or modeling, is not sufficient. Experience with X-ray techniques or handling of synchrotron radiation is prioritized.
- Strong interest in fundamental physicochemical processes.
In assessing applications, the greatest emphasis is placed on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater weight is given to the quality of the scientific work than to the number of publications.
Significant importance will be attached to personal suitability. Special consideration will be given to teamwork skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and competencies complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and can contribute to its future development. A collaborative attitude and a positive approach to teamwork are crucial, as we strive for an open, supportive, and pleasant work environment.
