Research Assistant in Structural Chemistry and Battery Materials
Uppsala UniversitetUppsala län, Uppsala
Previous experience is desired
The Department of Chemistry – Ångström conducts research and education in the field of chemistry. The department employs 270 staff members and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. Highly successful, internationally recognized research is conducted across the department's six programs. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often involving international collaboration, and we see continued strong growth within our field. The department has educational responsibilities within engineering and master's programs. More information can be found on our website.
Specific Subject Description:
The Structural Chemistry program at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström has, for many years, had operations focused on the development of materials and applications within the battery field: Ångström Advanced Battery Center. We develop new electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, improve the materials with regard to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical properties in batteries using both experimental and theoretical methods. The research is therefore both fundamental and applied.
This project will focus on fluorine-free binders that are electrochemically stable at high potentials for LNMO-based Li-ion batteries, and investigate their electrochemical stability and performance.
Job Responsibilities:
The project encompasses both polymer chemistry and the construction and testing of batteries. The projects will involve extensive work in characterization methods such as electrochemistry, spectroscopy, and structural characterization.
The Research Assistant will design, plan, and carry out the experimental work, often in collaboration with colleagues, critically analyze and discuss results, and disseminate the work orally at seminars and in writing in the form of articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required for the position:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
- Knowledge and experience of battery binders.
- Knowledge and experience of lithium-based batteries, including material characterization and cell assembly.
- Experience in independently conducting research projects.
Personal suitability will also be given great weight. Consideration will be given to good teamwork skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the research within the department/institution and contribute to its future development.
Desirable/Additional Merits:
Experience with LNMO cells and electrochemical characterization techniques is desirable.
