The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the field of chemistry. The department has more than 270 employees and a turnover of over 300 million SEK. Within the department's six programs, we conduct highly successful research of high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often involving international collaboration, and we see continued strong growth within our field. Subject Description
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced research assistant to join our team, working at the interface between microbiology and molecular biology. The projects focus on large-scale genetic and metabolic modification of Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria for the sustainable production of ammonia. The position offers practical experience in molecular cloning, bacterial cultivation, and characterization of modified strains, providing an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research with applications in biotechnology and sustainable agriculture.
Responsibilities:
- Daily routine preparation of experimental materials
- Independently design and perform cloning in E. coli and various cyanobacterial strains
- Cultivation and monitoring of cyanobacteria in bioreactors
Requirements:
The applicant must have:
- A degree in biotechnology or molecular biology.
- Experience in cultivating cyanobacteria in bioreactors and large-scale genetic engineering, synthetic biology.
- Very good oral and written communication skills in English.
- Excellent ability to document experimental details.
Consideration will also be given to good teamwork skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they can contribute to its future development.
The position is a fixed-term appointment for 6 months. The employment is 75%. Start date: July 6. Location: Ångström Laboratory, Building 7, Floor 1.
