The Department of Linguistics and Philology conducts research and education in linguistics and text studies with a focus on Asian languages and cultures, European classical languages, linguistics, and computational linguistics. Education is offered at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The department has approximately eighty employees who, together with students and partners, create an international and intellectually vibrant environment.
Subject Area: Greek
The department is seeking a University Lecturer in Greek, covering the Greek language and literature from antiquity to the end of the Byzantine period. Research in Greek and Byzantinology concerns the ancient languages, texts, and cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean region. Current research within the faculty is primarily focused on three areas: comparative and diachronic narratology and translation studies, historical research on emotions and philosophical psychology, and digital methods for the study of pre-modern cultures.
Duties
The duties include teaching, supervision, examination, administration, and independent research. The teaching primarily involves undergraduate courses and supervision of bachelor's theses. All teaching is conducted in Swedish. The administrative duties mainly concern the organization of seminars and other activities related to the research environment. The role also includes active participation in the research environment, as well as following developments within the subject area and broader societal developments that impact university work.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer, one must have completed a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence in Greek or another subject relevant to the content of the position, or have other professional skills significant in light of the subject content and duties of the position, and demonstrated pedagogical skill. The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogy relevant to university operations or acquired equivalent knowledge.
Ability to teach in Swedish is a requirement.
The scientific competence, pedagogical skill, and professional skill must be relevant to the subject content and duties of the position. The applicant must possess the personal qualities required to perform the duties well. Such personal qualities include flexibility, good teamwork skills, and responsibility.
Evaluation Criteria for Eligible Applicants
In the selection among eligible applicants, special weight will be given to pedagogical skill within the subject area of the position.
Equal care will be taken in assessing scientific and pedagogical skill.
All merits must be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed.
Scientific Skill refers to research merits. In assessing scientific skill, scientific quality will be the primary consideration. The scope of the research, primarily depth and breadth, will also be considered significant. In assessing scientific skill, special weight will be placed on research merits within the central methods and questions of Greek philology. Demonstrated ability to interact both within the scientific community and with the surrounding society is advantageous.
Additional Information
Parenthood leave, part-time work due to childcare, union assignments, military service, or similar will be considered as working life experience and should be stated in the merit list.

Recruitment Process

About the Position
The appointment is fixed-term for 12 months. The extent is 25 %. Start date by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
