The Authority for the Elderly is part of the Care Office in Södertälje Municipality. The Care Office covers both regulatory authority and operational activities within the areas of elderly care and disability services.

The Authority for the Elderly consists of three teams with social secretaries (biståndshandläggare) who investigate applications for assistance according to the Social Services Act for persons over 65 years of age. Each team is led by a team leader, and the unit as a whole by two unit managers. From February 2026, housing adaptation grant administrators and resident coordinators will also be included in the Authority for the Elderly. By autumn 2026, the Authority for the Elderly will change its working methods so that social secretaries work with their own cases.

 

Your Responsibilities

 

Working as a social secretary in elderly care involves tasks such as case processing, investigation, and decision-making according to the Social Services Act for persons over 65 years of age, as well as persons under 65 years of age with a dementia diagnosis. As a social secretary with us, you focus on the investigative work and the meeting with the individual, which can take place both at home, in the hospital, or during a visit to our office. You are expected to cooperate and collaborate with other units within the municipality as well as with external partners. You are also expected to take responsibility, together with colleagues and the unit manager, to develop the operations. In your work, you will meet people with different backgrounds and needs on a daily basis, and therefore you should be secure, empathetic, responsive, and flexible.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work (Social Work) or another university or college education that the employer considers equivalent
  • Category B driver's license
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, as well as good documentation skills
  • Experience with regulatory authority work and working in a politically governed organization
  • Experience in independently driving own cases through the entire process – from application to decision

 

Merits:

  • Experience working with the target group of the elderly
  • Experience working in the operational system Pulsen
  • It is an advantage if you master Finnish in speech and writing, as Södertälje is a Finnish-speaking administrative area
