Job Responsibilities

In the role of a teacher at the after-school center, you will be part of a work team together with other teachers and support resources, with the principal as your direct supervisor. Teachers at the after-school center and after-school pedagogues work with assignments from national and local policy documents, with responsibility for:

  • Organizing, planning, and conducting teaching based on the assignment.
  • Integrating practical and aesthetic learning processes into teaching, such as art, dance, drama, and music.
  • Applying central policy documents and local pedagogical plans based on the curriculum.
  • Working with values-based education, as formulated in the curriculum, to prevent bullying and harassment.
  • Conducting student care work based on students' different needs, wishes, and prerequisites.
  • Increasing the participation and influence of target/age groups and considering different needs and interests.
  • Stimulating language, reading, and writing development from a first- and second-language perspective.
  • Offering working methods within the subject areas of natural sciences, technology, and aesthetic expression.
  • Using language- and knowledge-developing working methods as support for the school's knowledge assignment.
  • Utilizing pedagogical learning resources such as games, books, toys, and digital tools for knowledge development.
  • Implementing scheduled daily forms of physical, sports, and movement activities, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Collaborating with other staff and professional groups within the school, social services, culture, and leisure, etc.
  • Conducting pedagogical documentation, which forms a central foundation for the after-school center's quality work.

Qualifications

Requirements

We are looking for you who are trained as a teacher and/or after-school pedagogue and have a teaching certificate with a university-level degree intended for teaching or work in an after-school center. If you have previous experience working in similar operations, this is meritorious. If you have completed a high school diploma from the Child and Youth Program as a foundation and started a university/college education for teaching or work in an after-school center, this can also be seen as meritorious. If you are a recent graduate, you will receive a mentor at the school who will guide you to give you the best possible prerequisites.

Competency Profile

You have good knowledge of the school's assignment regarding democratic upbringing and values-based work in the fight against bullying and harassment. You have the ability to early on notice and listen to children who need adult support. You have a professional work and attitude approach, as well as interaction in teaching within the after-school center. You have good communicative skills to collaborate with different staff groups and students within the school and after-school center, as well as with guardians.

You have the ability to practically handle special pedagogical needs and to meet children and students with different identity, life, and upbringing conditions, with different needs to meet safe adults to build mutual trust and confidence-based relationships. It is meritorious if you have previous experience working with sports, health, and physical activity for younger children, with responsibility for various practical and aesthetic forms of physical, sports, and movement activities.

We would like you to have previous work experience in municipal operations, school, and after-school centers, or alternatively in culture and leisure from public or non-profit operations. You have knowledge of supplementary legislation such as confidentiality and reporting obligations. To start working in preschool or school, you need to show an extract from the criminal record. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability. Good knowledge of Swedish, both in speech and writing, is a requirement.

The Assignment

The after-school center complements the school both in terms of time and content by offering activities that in various ways connect to and strengthen the work towards the curriculum's goals. As a teacher at the after-school center, you work with children and students between the ages of 6 and 12. The overarching assignment is to create a meaningful leisure time that challenges and stimulates good health, learning, and development. An important part is being able to capture and base the design of teaching on the target/age group's own needs, interests, and experiences.

The after-school center has a compensatory assignment that combines care with pedagogy. You are expected to collaborate with the municipal and non-profit cultural and leisure activities in Eda Municipality. The interaction with the students can be crucial for their quality of life, well-being, security, and learning. You work in close interaction with the children and students as well as together with guardians by both supporting and challenging them. Your work is based on the after-school center's policy documents for students between the ages of 6 and 9.
