The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) is Sweden's authority for intellectual property, responsible for patents, trademarks, and designs. We examine and register rights and work to increase knowledge about intellectual assets and their importance for innovation and business. Our mission is to contribute to Sweden's growth and competitiveness by helping businesses, innovators, and organizations protect and develop their ideas. We are also the supervisory authority for the collective management of copyright and operate in close cooperation with both national and international actors. PRV has approximately 300 employees and operations in Stockholm and Söderhamn, with competencies ranging from engineers and lawyers to IT specialists.

At the Design and Trademarks Department, we work within two areas of operation: we grant exclusive rights to trademarks and designs. Our mission is also to provide efficient and appropriate systems for this and to spread information and knowledge about different intellectual property rights. The department consists of 50 employees located at three units. We are now looking for two additional trademark examiners. As a trademark examiner, you will work to strengthen Sweden's growth and competitiveness!

Job Responsibilities

As a trademark examiner, you will handle both national and international cases. It may also become relevant to handle new applications and applications for changes to existing registrations. You will independently examine applications based on the Trademarks Act and current practice, and make decisions that are understandable and legally secure.

Job responsibilities include, among other things, writing refusal decisions, informing applicants and the public about intellectual property, and providing advice and instructions in the field. The role requires that you can perform your work independently based on current regulations.

Job responsibilities also include participating in the department's development work or representing PRV in collaborations with other authorities. Participation in international cooperation may also become relevant in the long term.

As a trademark examiner, you are also expected to participate in PRV's external information work, which means that travel may occur in the role. The employment begins with an internal training period together with a supervisor who supports you in your development as an examiner.

Who are you?

We are looking for you who have:

• An academic degree (180 ECTS/120 credits) in social sciences, political science, law (degree certificate must be presented) or another area that the employer deems relevant.
• At least 1 year of current work experience in public administration through investigation and decision-making within the public sector.
• Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
• Good computer skills in the Microsoft Office package.

It is meritorious if you have current knowledge of general administrative law and/or have other language skills, such as French, German, or Spanish.

To function well in the role of trademark examiner, you need to have very good ability to work independently, be systematic and thorough. The work requires that you are structured and have the ability to prioritize. Furthermore, you should have very good collaboration and communication skills as the work requires cooperation with colleagues as well as our customers/applicants.

The employment is a permanent full-time position located in Söderhamn. We apply a six-month probation period.
