For a Living Kiruna – Seeking Dedicated Social Worker

One thing is certain. With us, you make a difference. We are Kiruna. We are the healthcare staff holding the hands of elderly mothers, the teachers helping little brothers read their first words, the childcare workers watching someone grow every day, and the social workers making what is necessary to change lives. We are personal assistants who give freedom, librarians who make literature accessible, and home support staff driving to the villages in snowstorms – midnight sun shining to be there.

We are hundreds of competencies, thousands of people, and generations of experience working together to secure, care for, inspire, teach, save lives, think new thoughts, move cities, support each other, and take care of people. With pride and care. From the mountains to the city. Today and tomorrow for a living Kiruna. There is something beautiful about that. Do you also want to work for life, the human being, and the future in Kiruna Municipality? Do you want to create value and make a real difference for what matters?

About the Role

The mandate of the Social Services Administration is to meet people's needs for security. The administration shall work to ensure that the municipality's residents receive social care in various forms, with a special responsibility to safeguard the needs and interests of vulnerable groups. We constantly strive for high quality that benefits the users of our services.

Responsibilities

In light of the changes in the new Social Services Act, we now need to expand our workforce. We are therefore looking for a dedicated and competent social worker (biståndshandläggare) to investigate and process cases according to the Social Services Act (SoL).

In your role, you will collaborate closely with several experienced social workers, providing good opportunities for supervision, collegial support, and joint problem-solving. As a social worker, you will investigate and process applications according to the Social Services Act. You will make decisions and follow up on interventions according to IBIC (Individual Needs in Focus). You will investigate home care services, short-term accommodation, specialized housing, etc. You will collaborate within the municipality as well as with other authorities and organizations.

As a social worker, you need to be structured, meticulous, and able to plan your work independently. You will be involved in the unit's development work based on the new Social Services Act.

Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
Period: 2026-08-24 to 2027-12-31, with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree from the social work program, the social care program, or other post-secondary education assessed by the employer as equivalent, including law with public authority functions. Experience in similar work is meritorious. Knowledge of Finnish and Sami is desirable.

You have a holistic view in your work, and the ability to get different parts to work together are important qualities, as well as engagement and willingness to develop. Understanding and respect for working in a politically governed organization is necessary in this role. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

A valid driver's license (Category B) is required.

Why Kiruna Municipality?

To work with us, you must share Kiruna Municipality's common value base where respect, responsibility, and collaboration are key words. We offer a pleasant working environment and stimulating tasks, as well as a good balance between work and leisure.

We offer many benefits, including the opportunity to train free of charge at various fitness facilities up to 5000 SEK/year, mountain cabins that you can rent, and the option to exchange salary for extra days off.

Kiruna Municipality strives for gender balance and sees diversity as a strength. We welcome employees with different backgrounds and work to ensure our workplaces are accessible to everyone. Kiruna Municipality views full-time work as a right and part-time work as an opportunity. It is meritorious if you have knowledge of Finnish, Sami, and/or Meänkieli, as Kiruna Municipality is an administrative area for these languages.

Kiruna Municipality has made its own selection for this recruitment and therefore declines contact with advertising salespeople or other sellers of recruitment services.
