Qualifications

According to the Higher Education Ordinance, a person is qualified for appointment as Assistant Professor if they have completed a doctoral degree or attained equivalent scientific competence. Preference is given to those who have completed a doctoral degree or attained equivalent competence no more than five years before the application deadline.

Additionally, according to Uppsala University's regulations on employment, the applicant must possess pedagogical competence, demonstrated through merits in education and teaching. To achieve pedagogical competence, the applicant should have completed higher education pedagogy training relevant to the operations, lasting at least five weeks, or be assessed as having equivalent knowledge. As a general qualification requirement for teachers, the applicant must possess the personal qualities required to perform the duties of the position well.

Ability to teach in both Swedish and English is also a requirement.

Assessment Criteria

When selecting among qualified applicants, equal care will be taken in assessing scientific and pedagogical competence. Particular weight will be attached to scientific competence. Administrative competence and the ability to collaborate will also be assessed.

Scientific Competence refers to research merits. Particular weight is placed on scientific competence in philosophy of religion. In assessing scientific competence, scientific quality will be considered primarily. The scope of the research, particularly regarding depth and breadth in fields relevant to the vacancy, will also be significant. Scientific competence is demonstrated, among other things, by published articles and/or monographs that have contributed to the development of the subject nationally and, especially, internationally. The ability to competitively obtain research funding will also be given weight, as will the research plan included in the application.

Pedagogical Competence refers to educational and teaching merits. Pedagogical competence must be well documented so that quality can be assessed. In assessing pedagogical competence, pedagogical quality will be considered primarily. The scope, both breadth and depth, will also be significant. Experience in teaching within the field of philosophy of religion, or in second place, related subjects, is required. In assessing pedagogical competence, consideration will be given to experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating teaching, as well as experience in supervision and examination.

Particular weight will be attached to the applicant's prospects of contributing to the future development of the department and the subject in both research and education.

Other Competences: Administrative competence is significant for the position and will be considered. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work will also be considered.

Administrative competence is demonstrated through the ability to conduct overall operational planning, skill in leading operations and personnel, and ability to collaborate. The ability to inform about research and development work is demonstrated through popular science activities, such as participation in adult education, publishing popular science writings, and participating in public debate on educational and research issues.

Personal circumstances (e.g., parental leave) that may be credited to the applicant during merit evaluation should be stated in connection with the presentation of merits and experience.

In this recruitment, the University will primarily consider the person who, after a holistic assessment of competence and skill, is judged to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing the current tasks and contributing to a positive development of the operations.
