The department is located in the new hospital on the 9th floor with a fantastic view over Malmö. The unit has grown significantly over the past year to meet the needs of future kidney care. All patients have single rooms. Everything is new and modernized regarding facilities, equipment, and working methods, which leads to new opportunities to develop the operations. The Kidney and Transplantation Department is part of the Business Area (VO) for Nephrology, Rheumatology, and Endocrinology. The department is a hybrid unit where we care for patients who are to be or are transplanted, as well as patients within nephrology. Since autumn 2025, we have also begun caring for Hospitalist patients from surgery and urology. In other words, an exciting mix that gives you broad competence.

Within nephrology, we care for patients with both acute and chronic diseases. Examples of diagnoses include vasculitis, nephrotic syndrome, various forms of nephritis, etc. We help patients gain access (inlet) prior to starting dialysis and address problems with existing accesses. Transplant surgery consists of both planned and acute kidney transplants. Sometimes we also care for patients before and after pancreas transplants. Another important part is rejection problems after transplantation that require treatment. It is very rewarding to follow a severely kidney-diseased patient who has been transplanted and then leaves the department with a functioning kidney again.

Job Description

The department currently has 24 care beds on weekdays and 18 on weekends, with plans to open up to 24 beds by autumn 2026. We work divided into teams consisting of one nurse and one nursing assistant. Each team is responsible for six to seven patients together with the responsible medical team, and together you plan the tasks for the shift. Support functions such as coordinators, operations, physiotherapists, pharmacists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers are also part of the staff. Patients come to us both electively and urgently, so the pace and workload may vary during the hours of the day.

As a new employee, you will receive an individual introduction based on your existing competence. If you have previous experience, we adapt the introduction to your prerequisites.

The operations offer you a varied, stimulating, and educational workplace where you are given the opportunity for personal development and education. Since development is important to us, you are expected to participate in the department's ongoing development work. Competence development takes place continuously both internally and externally.

We work two weekends out of five and have a fixed schedule. We need new employees for day/evening shifts.

Qualifications

We welcome you who are trained as a nursing assistant (undersköterska) with a focus on emergency care, and who meet the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for a protected professional title, regardless of whether you studied under the previous or current program structure.

You also have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written. Experience of working within nephrology and/or transplant surgery is meritorious but not a requirement.

You have a humble attitude towards both patients and colleagues, are positive, engaged, flexible, and wish to develop in your professional role. You take personal responsibility and are a good team player. Naturally, you are a good ambassador for Region Skåne's values: welcoming, driving, caring, and respectful.
