KAA-UngMalmö is looking for a counselor who wants to support and strengthen individual young people on their path towards education or other employment. This is a fixed-term position starting immediately until 2027-03-31, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

In your role, you work supportively and proactively with young people who are not in upper secondary school. You conduct individual conversations, map out needs, and identify any obstacles to starting studies or other activities. The work is characterized by a relationship-building approach where you meet young people both individually and in their everyday contexts. You coordinate existing actors around the young person and initiate new actors if needed to support and strengthen the young person's path towards studies or other employment.

The position is designed based on a proactive, flexible, and operationally close working method. The work involves participating in activities together with the young people as well as fieldwork in arenas and forums where young people are present, with the aim of establishing contact, building trust, and enabling continued support.

You also work supportively with parents whose children have had problematic school attendance and/or other difficulties that prevent them from studying or engaging in other activities. The work aims to strengthen parents' ability to support their children's schooling and development.

You work in close collaboration with the school's student health team, the school social team, social services, and other employees within the Municipal Activity Responsibility (KAA). Through active collaboration and participation in systematic quality work, you contribute to developing and strengthening support for both young people and their families.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Social work degree (210 ECTS credits)
  • Several years of experience in social work focusing on children and young people
  • Good understanding of the goals and regulatory documents of both primary and upper secondary schools
  • Good understanding of social services' work and its regulatory documents
  • Good digital skills
  • Good command of Swedish, both spoken and written

Merits:

  • Training in motivational interviewing and/or other suitable conversational methods for the profession, such as coaching conversations
  • Training in methods for parental support
  • Experience working with children and young people within Social Services
  • Good habit of collaborating with other authorities and participating in various networks

About the Workplace

KAA-UngMalmö is a unit that targets young residents of Malmö covered by the Municipal Activity Responsibility (KAA), i.e., young people aged 16–19 who are not studying or employed. At the KAA-UngMalmö unit, study and career counselors, counselors, and special education teachers work. KAA is part of Malmö City's collaboration platform "Ung Malmö" (Young Malmö), where the Swedish Public Employment Service and the Employment and Social Administration are also represented, with the aim of collaborating regarding the target group of young people without education or employment.

 

The Upper Secondary and Adult Education Administration is one of three school administrations in Malmö City. We are responsible for the development and implementation of upper secondary school and adult education. Today, we have approximately 1,800 employees and are located throughout Malmö. We work to ensure that young people and adults achieve their educational goals and become active in our society. Job Information

Employment type: Fixed-term position until 2027-03-31 with the possibility of extension.
