About the Department

The Education Department is responsible for preschool, primary school, leisure centers, upper secondary school, adult education, as well as child and student health services. Approximately 1,100 employees work here, together creating a secure and developmental school and childcare environment.

Today, approximately 250 fantastic students attend Källan School, coming from varied cultural and social backgrounds—a diversity that enriches our daily lives. Trusting relationships and learning are in focus as we work together to be a school where both students and adults thrive and develop.

Job Responsibilities

As our counselor, you will be part of the school's student health team, with the mission to work preventively and promote students' learning, development, security, and health. The position is 70% at Källan School. The work takes place at the individual, group, and organizational levels. The role of our school counselor is carried out in close collaboration with teachers and other staff, implemented through a salutogenic approach aimed at removing obstacles to students' learning.

As a school counselor with us, you work with students in grades F-6 and are an important part of the school's student health team, collaborating with the school nurse, school psychologist, special educator, and principal.

Your responsibilities include interventions such as counseling, support conversations, information initiatives, investigations, and collaboration with external actors such as social services.

You work primarily preventively, with a special focus on student social issues, and contribute to creating a secure and inclusive school environment. Building and maintaining relationships with students is a central part of your work, where you are regularly present to strengthen contact with the students and promote a positive school day. You will also have individual conversations with students, collaborate closely with the school's various work teams, and have regular contact with parents to support the students' well-being and development in both the short and long term.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree in social work and experience as a counselor within primary school. You have good knowledge of the school's governing documents and what they entail.

To thrive in this position, you should have good empathetic skills and be confident in building relationships with children. You are also stable, flexible as a person, and enjoy working independently. You have high social competence, where relationship-building and teamwork are important parts. You have pedagogical insight, problem-solving skills, and the ability to contribute the specialist knowledge that the counselor function entails.
