The Youth Center in Vaxholm is open to young people in lower secondary and upper secondary school. We are located in the Storstuga premises, and the youth center is open three evenings a week. On Wednesdays and Thursdays between 16:00-20:00 and on Fridays between 15:30-22:30. We are open on some Saturdays from 16:00-22:30.

Job Responsibilities

The position of Youth Leader at the Storstuga Youth Center falls under the Youth Activities Unit of the Education Administration and has a scope of 50%. This is a temporary position during the academic year 2026/2027 as one of our employees will be on study leave. There may be an opportunity for extension.

The role of Youth Leader includes working two weekday evenings per week and every other Friday evening. In addition to working at the youth center, the role includes time for school outreach at the municipality's lower secondary school one morning per week, planning and development of activities, and purchasing.

As a Youth Leader, you are an adult role model who is responsible, relationship-building, confident in yourself, and enjoys working with young people. At the youth center, you meet young people aged 13-18 and organize activities based on their wishes. This could include playing games or sports, being creative in the atelier, baking, or preparing light meals. We work to create engagement, inspire participation, and offer a wide range of activities in a safe environment free from alcohol and drugs.

The unit is small and consists mainly of hourly-paid youth leaders. This means that in this role you need to be proactive and creative in your approach to work.

We use the app Ungdomsappen (Youth App), which among other things serves as our marketing channel, and it is part of your job responsibilities to update it regarding the weekly activities.

Your working hours always include Wednesdays 11:00-20:15, Thursdays 15:45-20:15, and every other week also Fridays 15:15-23:00. The remaining 11 hours/month can be scheduled based on your preferences in discussion with the manager, but the working time must be scheduled for a total of 20 hours/week. Occasionally, the times may change in consultation with the manager based on the content of the activities.

Vaxholm's youth activities are members of KC (Knowledge Center for Youth Activities), and you are offered the opportunity to attend their training when available.

As a Youth Leader at the youth center, you collaborate with the Social Services' youth support workers and the municipality's lower secondary school, Kronängsskolan.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are confident, engaged, and have the ability to build relationships with young people. You take initiative and want to contribute to a developing youth center. You have a post-secondary education in leisure leadership, behavioral science, pedagogy, or another education that the employer considers equivalent.

It is meritorious if you have experience leading groups, working with relationship building, and have an eye for marketing. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
