Ebba Pettersson's Private School operates as a non-profit foundation. We are a school for grades F-9 (preschool to grade 9) with approximately 650 students. The school has a long history as one of Gothenburg's oldest primary schools. Since the early 2000s, the school has been located in Järnbrott, characterized by a culture focused on our traditions, which are built upon our core values: security, pride, engagement, development, and joy.
We are currently seeking a School Counselor on a 100% basis.
The School Counselor plays a crucial role in the school's interdisciplinary student welfare work and in the development of the school's social environment.
This is a varied role involving extensive contact with staff, students, and guardians. It also includes working within the student health team, contributing based on your area of expertise, and taking initiative for development. The counselor's mission is to integrate psychosocial work into the school to help students achieve their learning goals. Seeing the student in their context means understanding how the student is doing during leisure time, at home, and in the classroom. The ultimate goal is to remove obstacles to learning, ensuring students feel well and develop positively in line with the school's mission of "knowledge, upbringing, health".
The Role
- Conduct social investigations and assessments.
- Provide guidance and consultation to school staff based on observations, investigations, and assessments. Simple educational initiatives may also be included.
- Participate in network meetings and collaborate with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry, police, and other relevant external actors.
- Contribute to mapping, planning, drafting, and implementing action plans in student welfare, safety, and values-based work, as well as in efforts to counteract problematic school absenteeism.
- Organize and contribute expertise in crisis management and conflict resolution.
- Lead and organize the school's safety team.
- Counsel students individually and in groups, as well as meet with guardians.
Your Competence and Experience
We are looking for you who hold a degree in Social Work (Socialen) and have prior experience working in a school setting. The role of a School Counselor requires the ability to handle multiple perspectives, as school social work must safeguard and highlight the importance of structural, organizational, and relational perspectives. This demands knowledge of children and young people and their development.
You must be able and willing to work independently, be a competent administrator, and above all, be an empathetic person who meets students, guardians, and colleagues with care.
Personal suitability will be given great weight.
The position is a permanent full-time (100%) role.
A probationary period of 6 months applies. Start date: early August 2026, or by agreement. Selection and interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis.
We kindly but firmly decline direct contact from staffing and recruitment agencies.
Open to All
We focus on your competence, not your other prerequisites. We are open to adapting the role or workplace to suit your needs.
