Recruitment of Reserve Firefighters (RiB) – 8 Positions

We are approximately 200 employees who work every day with rescue services, education, counseling, authority enforcement, crime prevention, internal protection, security protection, and crisis preparedness. Together, we create safety for approximately 95,000 residents in the municipalities of Nyköping, Oxelösund, Gnesta, and Trosa.

What is Reserve Firefighter (RiB)?

Reserve Firefighter (RiB), also known as part-time firefighter, is a crucial part of Swedish rescue services. The assignment involves preventing accidents and participating in rescue operations in cases such as fires, traffic accidents, cardiac arrest alarms, chemical spills, and other societal disruptions.

The deteriorating security political situation places new demands on the rescue services. The rescue services are part of the civil defense and must be able to act under heightened readiness to save lives and property. By becoming an RiB, you can contribute.

Tasks and Stations

We are now looking for you who want to work as a Reserve Firefighter alongside your regular job at one of the fire stations in:

• Oxelösund
• Trosa
• Nyköping
• Nävekvarn
• Vrena

Please state in your application which station you are applying for.

As an RiB, you are on standby usually every third or fourth week, depending on the station. In the event of an alarm, you must be able to report to the fire station and depart within 5–10 minutes. This means you need to live and/or work close enough to the station to meet the response time. At some of our stations, there is an option for night+weekend standby or daytime-only standby, depending on where you live or work.

Firefighter with Own Vehicle (BiB) – Oxelösund

At the Oxelösund station, there is also an opportunity to work as a BiB. In this role, you have access to a rescue vehicle both at home and at your regular workplace, and you drive directly to the scene when the alarm sounds. This allows you to live and work in larger parts of the municipality.

Education

You will receive all the education and training required through us.

Basic Training

• 4 weeks in total, divided into two periods of 2 weeks.
• Scheduled for spring 2027, weeks 45 and 9–10.
• Before the training, you will complete 16 hours of web-based theory at your own pace.
• You must be able to take time off from your regular job during the training weeks.

Continued Basic Training

• Part 2 is conducted within two years, 3 weeks at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MCF) schools.
• You receive salary during education, exercises, and alarms. Most exercises take place in the evenings, but some training/exercises take place during the day on weekdays where you are expected to be able to participate.
• We cover the majority of the education costs for a C-driver's license (heavy truck) which you are expected to obtain within 2 years of employment.
• In addition to Basic Training, you will continue to be educated over several years, for example in chainsaw, ATV, and coastal skipper.

Qualifications

You who apply should:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Hold a B-driver's license.
• Be a Swedish citizen.
• Have good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
• Pass a physical work test (treadmill test).
• Be able to report to the fire station within 5–10 minutes upon alarm.
• Have a certificate from your main employer stating that you are allowed to leave your workplace during regular working hours in case of an alarm, as well as to complete the basic training.
• Undergo and pass medical examinations for rescue personnel.

As part of the recruitment process, various tests are conducted. You will be contacted with more information if you proceed in the process.

Recruitment Process

• Last application date: September 13 (selection is ongoing)
• Treadmill test: September–October
• Interview: October
• Test day: November, one full day (driving, height test, confined spaces, physical tasks)
• Medical examination and employment: Thereafter
• Basic training: Spring 2027

Employment and Compensation

You are employed according to the current RiB agreement. One full week of standby currently yields approximately 5,500 SEK. In addition to the standby compensation, you are also paid for education, exercises, and every alarm deployment. We offer a meaningful side job where you make a real difference.
