The Rescue Services in Strängnäs Municipality work in two areas: operational activities (dispatch/exercises/equipment maintenance) and preventive activities (inspection/training/advice). Together, we work towards two overarching goals: to reduce the risk of fires and other accidents occurring, and to ensure that damages are limited when an accident does happen. We aim to provide our residents with a safe and secure municipality to live and work in.

The operational activities are organized with both full-time and on-call (RiB) staff. Together, we have a broad competence that is often very important and valuable for various types of rescue operations. The preventive activities work to promote good fire protection and measures that prevent and avoid accidents in society.

We are looking for rescue personnel on call for the Rescue Services operations in Strängnäs / Mariefred and in Åker Styckebruk. As rescue personnel on call (RiB), you have a side job and respond to alarms in the area where you live and work. You become part of a work team that together is responsible for carrying out rescue operations and contributing to safety in society.

DUTIES

Being rescue personnel on call means that you live, work, and operate in your daily life as usual, but during certain weeks you are on call. This means you must be able to respond when the alarm sounds, regardless of the time of day.

When you are on call, you carry your pager and need to be able to reach the fire station within 6 minutes in Mariefred / Åker Styckebruk and within 10 minutes in Strängnäs. From there, you go out on various rescue operations together with your colleagues. This can involve fires in buildings, vehicles, or in forests and fields. You may also respond to traffic accidents, automatic alarms, acute medical cases where you provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, or other incidents where people need quick help.

Your task is to create safety, help those affected, and limit damages as much as possible together with your colleagues. Between alarms, you train and educate yourselves regularly. You become part of a group where cooperation, responsibility, and trust are crucial.

About the assignment:

• On-call duty according to schedule, usually every third or fourth week.
• An on-call week is 168 hours (24/7 for seven days)
• Opportunity to swap on-call shifts with colleagues if needed
• You are based at the fire station in Strängnäs, Mariefred, or Åker Styckebruk
• You participate in exercises for approximately 3 hours per week, usually in the evenings during your on-call week

Important to know!

• The part-time firefighter assignment is a side job and cannot be a full-time position
• You have another main employer or have another main occupation
• You must be able to leave your main job immediately when an alarm sounds
• You are expected to maintain good physical condition to handle the assignment
• We conduct annual medical check-ups and offer PSA tests for employees over 50 years old.
• We conduct alcohol tests for all staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

You who apply for the position do not need previous professional knowledge as a firefighter, as the required training will be provided by us during employment. In the recruitment process, we instead look for different qualities and personal traits that are important in the complex work of a firefighter.

What is required is that you have:

• Very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
• A driver's license, at least class B, and good driving skills.
• Meet the swimming requirements (Swedish Life Saving Society's Gold Badge).
• Good physical ability and health (among other things, you pass the treadmill test with equipment at 4.5 km/h).

You must live and work such that you can reach the fire station within 6 and 10 minutes respectively when you are on call.

Previous experience from rescue services, healthcare, or other operational activities is meritorious but not a requirement.
