About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand prisons, and client transport.
Job Description
Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure society? We are now looking for more prison officers at Mariefred Prison!
As a prison officer at a prison, you are the foundation of the security work and are part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The daily work involves locking and unlocking residential rooms, inspecting premises and surveillance, as well as conversation contact and preparation for release. The role of a prison officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with risk assessment and security awareness in focus.
Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development.
The work involves serving on weekends, evenings, and weekdays. We operate a service that is event-driven, which means we also work on public holidays and thus have inconvenient working hours. As a prison officer, you also serve every other weekend on the schedule.
You start your employment at the workplace where you receive an introduction for three weeks. After a few months of service, we schedule when you will begin the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training. The training lasts eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours and is both physical and theoretical, so we also require good health. Assessment is ongoing before the probationary period transitions to a permanent position after six months.
The desired start for the position is week 37. We conduct continuous selection.
Qualifications
Your personal qualities are important. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, good judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.
For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your attitude that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
