Project Description
Doctoral Subject: Biotechnology
This doctoral project develops new methods to reconstruct spatial organization in tissues from single-cell RNA sequencing data using graph theory and machine learning. The work focuses on algorithm development and analysis of large-scale data. You will be based in the Molecular Programming group at KTH/SciLifeLab and work together with leading research groups in single-cell genomics, spatial biology, and machine learning. The position is aimed at candidates with a background in computation, applied mathematics, or related fields.
The position is part of the research school within DDLS (Data Driven Life Science). Data-driven life science (DDLS) uses data, computational methods, and AI/ML to study biological systems and processes, from molecular structures and cellular processes to human health and global ecosystems. SciLifeLab and the Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) aim to train the next generation of data-driven life science researchers and to create globally leading competence in computational and data science in Sweden. The program is funded with a total of 3.3 billion SEK over 12 years by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
During the program, over 260 doctoral students and 200 postdocs will be part of the research school. The DDLS program has four strategic research areas: cell and molecular biology, evolution and biodiversity, precision medicine and diagnostics, and epidemiology and infection biology. For more information, see https://www.scilifelab.se/data-driven/ddls-research-school/ (https://www.scilifelab.se/data-driven/ddls-research-school/). The future of life science is data-driven. Do you want to be part of this development? Then you are welcome to apply to this unique program.
At KTH, we are now advertising a doctoral position within DDLS with a focus on data-driven cell and molecular biology. This area encompasses research that fundamentally changes our understanding of how cells function by studying their molecular components in time and space, from individual molecules to natural tissue environments.
Supervision: Ian Hoffecker, together with Stefania Giacomello, Rickard Sandberg, and Simon Koplev, are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made at the time of admission.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:

- completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
- acquired in other ways, within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6.
Selection
