About The American High School, Halmstad

The school is located on the campus of Halmstad University. The school is now in its fourth academic year and has approximately 160 students studying in the Natural Sciences, Economics, or Social Sciences programs. Teaching is conducted in both English and Swedish by a competent teaching staff with a strong sense of community.

About the Position

As a special education teacher, you will work partly through the school's student health team and be an important part of the promoting and preventive work. You will also work operationally to support teachers in learning situations, where, for example, lesson visits are an important part of the daily basis. You ensure that students receive the right support and that teachers have the right knowledge to design instruction so that it is accessible to all students.

You will also work closely with the school leadership and act as an extension of the administration to ensure that teachers and students have the right conditions for success. Together with the school leadership, you are responsible for planning and driving the work regarding support at the individual, group, and organizational levels, as well as for students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and parents, you provide support in adapting studies for students. You create action plans and conduct investigations, such as pedagogical assessments, when necessary. You also support principals in school development issues and actively participate in the school's development work.

You will support students with structure, planning, and study techniques. We expect you to have a good familiarity with compensatory aids and competence regarding digital learning tools.

The position is a permanent employment of 20-40%, starting with a six-month probationary period. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for you who are an educated special education teacher with a degree, and preferably also hold a teaching license. Previous experience in the profession is a requirement. It is also meritorious if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in creating action plans and conducting pedagogical investigations, as well as good knowledge and experience of working with students with reading and writing difficulties. You also have knowledge of and experience with language-developing working methods.

You have a professional approach in meetings with students, colleagues, and parents, and good insight into people's different conditions. You find it easy to collaborate and create good working relationships with a coaching and mentoring approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented. You see opportunities and you always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an entirely positive attitude.
