About Lerum Upper Secondary School

Lerum Upper Secondary School is an attractive high school with the vision: A school for everyone – become the best version of yourself.

With approximately 1,350 students, Lerum Upper Secondary School is a popular institution with a strong value system focusing on safety, presence, and challenges. We offer nine national programs, adapted upper secondary education, and introductory programs, divided into five school units, each led by a principal. The school also has an administrative director, a unit manager for student health, and an operations manager for coordination. Teachers are organized into working groups around students in the various programs. The school is situated in a fantastic environment with a green park area right next to the Säve River, just a few minutes' walk from Lerum's center and train station.

Responsibilities

Do you want to help shape one of the region's most attractive upper secondary schools? We are looking for an engaged school counselor who wants to make a difference for our young people!

We seek an engaged and forward-looking school counselor who is confident in their professional role, thrives on autonomy with responsibility, and wishes to be an active part of the school's development. As a counselor at Lerum Upper Secondary School, you play a central role in contributing a psychosocial perspective at the individual, group, and organizational levels, with a focus on removing barriers to learning. You work in a health-promoting and preventive manner by supporting school staff on psychosocial issues, working with groups and whole classes, as well as with individual students in need of extra support.

You will become one of the school's three counselors and be part of the overarching student health team. Student health consists of school counselors, school nurses, special education teachers, psychologists, career counselors, and social pedagogues. The school also has five student health teams at the unit level, led by the principal. As a counselor, you will belong to 1–2 of these teams.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Promoting and Preventive Work: You drive and develop the school's work in areas such as values, as well as sexuality, consent, and relationships.
  • Safety Work: You are part of the school's Safety Team and work to investigate, address, and prevent discrimination, harassment, and conflicts.
  • Supporting Students: You conduct support, motivation, and crisis counseling with individual students and groups.
  • Collaboration: You serve as a link to external actors such as social services, child and adolescent psychiatry, youth mental health clinics, and habilitation services.
  • Investigate and Follow-up: You work actively with issues such as problematic absenteeism and conduct social assessments for the school.
  • Mentoring: You provide consultation and support to school staff on psychosocial issues.
  • Systematic Quality Work: You contribute to developing and updating school policies, for example regarding concerns reporting, plans against discrimination and harassment, and work with ANDTS (Alcohol, narcotics, doping, tobacco, and gambling).

As a counselor in Lerum Municipality, you will also be part of a municipality-wide school counselor network and participate in professional meetings. You also have the opportunity for supervision.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in Social Work. Experience as a school counselor and good knowledge of the school's governing documents and mission are considered an asset.
