Background

At the Faculty of Health, Natural Sciences, and Technology, the Department of Health Sciences within the field of Nursing offers nursing education, specialist nursing programs in emergency care, intensive care, perioperative care, and district nursing, as well as standalone courses, commissioned training, and doctoral education. Nursing is the main subject in degrees at the basic level (Bachelor's), advanced level (Master's), and research level (Licentiate and Doctoral degrees). Research in the field is organized into three areas: Models and innovations for safe care, Management of complex health conditions, and Competence and professional development in nursing. Within the area of Models and innovations for safe care, research on digital health innovation is currently underway.

Responsibilities

The primary duties involve teaching within the nursing program. Teaching within our specialist nursing programs may also be relevant based on the applicant's competence profile. Teaching includes planning, course development, instruction, supervision, and examination. Teaching is primarily conducted on campus, but distance learning may also occur.

In line with the department's efforts to strengthen internationalization, assignments in this area may also arise.

The work takes place in a dynamic and creative environment where you actively participate in the development of education and teaching, contributing to the integration of research and education. Responsibilities also include keeping abreast of developments within the subject and societal changes relevant to the work.

As a university lecturer, you will initiate and conduct research within the field's research profile, in collaboration with other researchers and the surrounding society, both nationally and internationally. Within the area of Models and innovations for safe care, there is an opportunity to participate in a research project on digital health innovations. The position includes time for professional development and research, typically equivalent to 20% of working hours. The role may also include supervising doctoral students. Other administrative tasks may include participation in working groups, boards, and councils, as well as holding specific areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer in nursing, one must have demonstrated pedagogical and scientific competence. In addition, a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence in nursing/health sciences and a nursing degree are required, or alternatively, other professional skills relevant to the subject content and duties of the position.

Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, is required as teaching is conducted in Swedish.

All employees must have the ability to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect. They must also take responsibility for both the operations and their own work, contributing to a good working environment.

According to Karlstad University's employment regulations, teachers must have completed higher education pedagogy training. If such training is lacking, employment can still occur, provided the employee commits to completing it within the professional development period during the first two years of employment, or applies to have equivalent knowledge validated.

Selection Criteria

In the appointment process, equal weight will be given to the applicant's pedagogical and scientific competence. Pedagogical competence is assessed based on the ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching, as well as the ability to supervise and examine. Scientific competence is assessed based on scientific quality.

Great weight will be placed on:

• Experience of teaching and/or supervision at the university level within nursing education or specialist nursing education.
• Experience of interdisciplinary collaboration regarding research on and development of digitalization in health and medical care.
• Experience of research related to digitalization in healthcare.
• Personal qualities we highly value include responsiveness, initiative, and engagement in the activities.

• International experience and an international network.

Meritorious qualifications include:

• Specialist nursing degree in emergency nursing, district nursing, intensive care nursing, or perioperative nursing.
• Knowledge of English.

Conditions

The position is a permanent, full-time appointment with an earliest start date to be agreed upon. The field of nursing is undergoing a generational shift where establishing and developing our activities is of great importance; therefore, 30% of working hours are allocated for professional development during the first year of employment.
