Student Assistants/Library Attendants at the Library of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities
The National Heritage Board of Sweden (Riksantikvarieämbetet) is the Swedish authority for cultural heritage issues. We work to ensure that cultural environments, cultural landscapes, cultural objects, and museums are preserved, used, and developed. Our mission is guided by the government's goals for cultural policy and the national cultural heritage work. Our operations are located in Visby, Stockholm, and Tumba, and we also run public activities at the visitor site Glimmingehus. We employ approximately 250 people.
The Library of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities is the national special library in the field of cultural heritage and serves as a central knowledge resource for the National Heritage Board. We offer both extensive physical collections and a growing digital selection to users across the country.
Our focus areas include archaeology, cultural heritage conservation, medieval art and architecture, museology, and numismatics. Our primary users are researchers, students, and professionals, but the library is open to everyone. We actively work to reach target groups that can benefit from our collections and services.
The library has eleven permanent staff members and will, from April 1, 2026, become part of the newly formed Department of Cultural Heritage Science. Together with the authority's archives, we are located in beautiful historic premises on Östermalm in Stockholm.
We are now looking for two student assistants/library attendants who, during their studies, wish to work part-time, build their work experience at a special library with exciting subject areas, and contribute to making our library perceived as open and welcoming.
Your Tasks
As a library attendant, your primary task will be to meet the library's users in information and research services in the afternoons and on Wednesday evenings. Other supplementary tasks may also arise.
Your Competence
We are looking for someone studying a program in library and information science who will continue their studies during the autumn term. Previous experience working in a library is an asset. It is also an asset if, in addition to library and information science, you have studied archaeology, museology, cultural heritage conservation, art history, or a related subject.
You must have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written. You also need good IT skills and the ability to quickly learn and work in various IT environments.
As a person, you are independent and proactive. After our introduction, you should be able to lead yourself in daily work based on given assignments and conditions, organize your work efficiently, and prioritize your tasks. You have a clear user focus and find it easy to collaborate and build contacts.
We place great importance on personal qualities.
