Role Overview

The Data Center Operations Team Leader is responsible for the daily operational leadership, security oversight, and professional development of multiple technical teams working at our client's data center facilities. This role acts as the primary on-site point of contact for technicians, inventory and asset managers, as well as future specialist teams, ensuring consistent service delivery, a strong safety culture, and high operational standards.

The role is people-centric and safety-driven, combining practical data center knowledge with mentorship, coordination, and leadership across multiple teams. The Team Leader will support existing teams (data center technicians, inventory and asset management) and scale the operation to include new teams performing activities such as GPU swaps, structured cabling, hardware upgrades, and new data center operations.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Mentorship

  • Act as the primary responsible leader and escalation point for multiple technical data center teams across various facilities.
  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and support junior and mid-level managers in the team, promoting skill development, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Support the introduction of new technologies and teams, ensuring consistent working practices and compliance with standards.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture across all facilities.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Take responsibility for and actively promote a strong health and safety culture within all teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, including:
  • Daily safety briefings,
  • Risk assessments of tasks,
  • Use of personal protective equipment,
  • Equipment handling, lifting, electrical safety, and ladder safety.
  • Actively identify, escalate, and mitigate safety risks.
  • Lead by example in safety behavior and ensure that incidents, near misses, and issues are reported and addressed.

Operational Oversight

  • Monitor and coordinate operational activities, including (but not limited to):
  • Hardware repairs,
  • Inventory and asset management,
  • Installation, decommissioning, and upgrading of hardware,
  • GPU swaps, cable installation, and other specialized tasks in the data center.
  • Ensure that work is performed according to documented procedures, SLAs, and quality standards.
  • Support technicians with troubleshooting, prioritization, and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintain oversight of workload, facility readiness, and operational risks.

Coordination Between Facilities and Stakeholders

  • Travel between data center facilities as needed to support teams and operations.
  • Act as the on-site point of contact for technicians, management, and approved external vendors.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders at our client and partner teams.
  • Ensure clear communication between shifts, facilities, and functional boundaries.

Incident and Problem Management

  • Support incident response and troubleshooting efforts, ensuring that correct escalation paths are followed.
  • Encourage structured thinking around root causes and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to problem tracking, post-incident reviews, and operational learnings.

Continuous Improvement and Accountability

  • Take responsibility for service quality, operational consistency, and technician experience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, safety procedures, and team effectiveness.
  • Support training, certification, and skill development tailored to current and future needs in the data center.

Qualifications Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of data center operations, IT hardware, or technical service environments.
  • Documented experience in leading, mentoring, or coordinating technical teams.
  • Good awareness of health, safety, and compliance requirements in technical or industrial environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between different data centers.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working in data centers, critical infrastructure, or large-scale technical environments.
  • Previous responsibility for safety management or coordination on-site.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing:
  • Hardware failures/repairs,
  • Inventory and asset management,
  • Cabling or hardware installation teams,
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working within structured procedures, SLAs, and operational frameworks.

Work Environment

  • Hands-on data center environment with exposure to:
  • Electrical equipment,
  • Lifting and material handling,
  • Racks, servers, GPUs, and network infrastructure.
  • Regular use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety and protection protocols.
  • Dynamically changing environment with multiple facilities requiring adaptability and proactive leadership.
