University West is seeking a university lecturer in social work, fixed-term employment.
University West is looking for a university lecturer in social work with a social pedagogical profile for the social work program starting in the autumn of 2026.
The social pedagogical profile of the social work program focuses on the pedagogical dimension of social work. Specifically, social pedagogical methods and approaches are profiled, supported by theories of learning, social mobilization, and participation.
Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities consist of teaching and research in social work. This includes teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels in the social work program, in courses in social work in the program for social psychiatric care, in commissioned education, and collaboration with the surrounding community. Additionally, participation in the collegial work within the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy as well as administrative tasks are included.
Eligibility requirements for employment as a university lecturer:
- Demonstrated pedagogical skills (Chapter 4, Section 4 HF). Applicants lacking pedagogical merits from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university's eligibility requirements, but this may have been achieved in other ways than within the academic environment.
- Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education pedagogical training is lacking, employment may still occur on the condition that the employee completes the training during the first two years of employment.
- Completed doctoral degree in social work (Chapter 4, Section 4 HF).
For this position, the following is also required:
- Ability to teach and supervise in Swedish and English.
- Documented good collaboration skills.
- Subject knowledge and experience in teaching higher education within the core areas of social work.
Meritorious for the position are:
- Experience in teaching higher education in social work with a specific focus on practice-based education, methods in social work, and the core areas of social work.
- Documented ability to plan and conduct teaching and supervision as well as examine at both undergraduate and advanced levels.
- Ability to develop research and educational activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community.
- Experience in research within the theories and methods of social work with a specific focus on the area of disabilities.
- Social work degree and at least two years of documented experience in qualified professional social work. We welcome applicants with experience in social work within any of the core areas of social work, such as the area of disabilities.

In assessing the applicants, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skills. In the assessment of skills, the subject area of the position, subject description, and tasks will be considered. Research within the theories and methods of social work is particularly meritorious. The pedagogical skills must be documented so that both scope and quality can be assessed. Special emphasis will be placed on experience in planning, conducting, and following up teaching in social work.
Particular importance will also be placed on the combined competence of both the subject and experiences of professional work as a social worker.
In assessing scientific skills, publications of high scientific quality will be considered. Research within the theories and methods of social work with a focus on the area of disabilities is especially meritorious.
In assessing pedagogical skills, both scope and quality will be considered. Special emphasis will be placed on experience in planning and conducting teaching in social work. Teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels is meritorious.
The university will primarily consider the applicant or applicants who, after a comprehensive assessment, are deemed to have the best conditions for collaborating internally and externally to carry out and develop the above-described tasks and actively contribute scientifically and pedagogically to the development of the institution.
Additionally, particular importance will be placed on the ability to collaborate with individuals, both internally and externally, as well as actively participate in the department's educational, project, and research activities.
Other:
The position is a fixed-term employment of 55% for 10 months. The planned start date is in August 2026 or by agreement.
In the selection process, it may be relevant to conduct trial lectures, work samples, interviews, and reference checks. The merits claimed must be supported by certificates.
