Öland Folk High School is looking for a teacher with course responsibility for the Distance Writing School
Öland Folk High School is seeking a teacher with course responsibility for the Distance Writing School, a project course where participants work on a larger prose project (usually a novel or short story collection) full-time.
Teaching is primarily conducted through text discussions about the participants' own texts and writing processes. The focus is on helping participants develop their own working methods and artistic expressions, as well as practicing analyzing and commenting on others' texts. The course has three mandatory meetings (in August, January, and May). Other teaching takes place remotely.
The Writing School's team consists of three teachers, two of whom have course responsibility. As a teacher with course responsibility, you will have shared responsibility for teaching, participants, and the course. You and your colleagues plan the course in consultation with each other, giving you great freedom to shape content and methods together. You are also responsible for recruiting and admitting new participants. As the course responsible, you will also participate in the school's development work together with other colleagues at Öland Folk High School.
For us, it is important that you can balance your employment with us with your own active authorship, and teaching is therefore organized in blocks where you work full-time for a period and then have a completely free period. The employment is 40% during the first academic year, with the possibility of extending to 50% thereafter.
About you
You who are applying have an active authorship in Swedish fiction prose. You have good experience and documented experience in mentoring literary writing. The course accepts literary projects in several different genres, and the teachers' task is to engage with them all regardless of their own personal taste. Therefore, we would like you to have a broad outlook on the literary field and a wide network in the area. You also need to be accustomed to holding and leading online meetings/lessons.
We believe that you have an education in literature, language, writing, or similar. Pedagogical training is an asset but not a requirement. What is important is that you have a pedagogical will and an idea of how you want to convey your knowledge.

In the education administration area, there are five basic units, library development, and the four folk high schools: Gamleby Folk High School, Kalmar Folk High School, Vimmerby Folk High School, and Öland Folk High School. The folk high schools offer a wide range of educational programs that contribute to raising the educational level in the region. Library development initiates, leads, and coordinates the region's joint development work in the library field. We are part of the regional development administration that works together on growth and development issues in Kalmar County.
