Engaged Educator Wanted for Basic Course

Do you want to be part of an organization where relationships, trust, and professionalism go hand in hand? Kalmar Folk High School is now seeking an engaged educator for the Basic Course for participants with mild intellectual disabilities.

Here, you will share course responsibility with a social worker and class mentor, and together you will have the opportunity to shape and develop the course content and structure. You will have overall responsibility for the course's pedagogical setup by planning, implementing, and following up on teaching with clear and individualized pedagogy in accordance with the folk high school's mission.

With us, we systematically work on participants' personal development, study ability, and independence, collaborating closely with leisure assistants and the social worker/class mentor to create a cohesive learning environment where studies, housing, and leisure become a whole. Once a week, evening duties at the boarding school are also included, where you contribute support in daily life, social training, structure, and community. Through the combination of teaching, course responsibility, and work at the boarding school, you are offered a varied and meaningful everyday life where you have the opportunity to work both strategically and closely with relationships!

The position is a temporary contract due to parental leave, from 2026-08-07 to 2027-10-31, with the possibility of an introduction in May 2026. You will be employed on a vacation service basis, and working hours are Monday to Friday, four days a week plus one evening per week.

About You

You are a qualified teacher, special teacher, or special educator with special pedagogical competence. You have experience working with individuals with mild intellectual disabilities and digital aids. Furthermore, we would like you to have experience from folk high schools and working with neuropsychiatric disabilities.

You are a stable and calm person even in stressful situations. You have the ability to create good relationships and build trust with course participants and are used to adapting your communication to the situation. You see the whole picture, take responsibility for the best interests of the organization, and plan your work effectively with clear timelines.

The Basic Course is characterized by close, cross-professional collaboration between educators, social workers/class mentors, and leisure assistants, where studies, boarding, and leisure are planned together with the participant's development in focus. The workgroup consists of competent and engaged employees who share a common responsibility for the target group. Here, there is a clear structure and a common pedagogical foundation, while you also have the opportunity to shape the work together with your colleagues.

Kalmar Folk High School has a program with general courses at the elementary and upper secondary level focusing on qualifying studies as well as a focus on music or singing. The school also offers courses for various target groups, such as individuals with intellectual disabilities, seniors, unemployed individuals, participants who want to develop their musical skills, or train to become teacher and student assistants or medical secretaries.

In the education administration area, there are five basic units, library development, and the four folk high schools: Gamleby Folk High School, Kalmar Folk High School, Vimmerby Folk High School, and Öland Folk High School. The folk high schools offer a wide range of educational programs that contribute to raising the educational level in the region. Library development initiates, leads, and coordinates the region's joint development work in the library sector. We are part of the regional development administration that works together on growth and development issues in Kalmar County.
