English Teacher Wanted at Kalmar Folk High School

Are you an engaged teacher who wants to make a difference in adult learning? We at Kalmar Folk High School are now looking for an English teacher at the upper secondary level for the General Course.

The role combines subject teaching with study and career guidance, where you will be an important part of the participants' journey towards further studies and working life. With us, you will have both pedagogical freedom and support from a dedicated team, as well as access to special educational expertise!

The position includes planning, implementing, and following up on teaching based on the participants' individual goals and conditions in accordance with the folk high school's pedagogical mission. You will participate in the course's joint planning, projects, and thematic approaches, strengthen participants' ability to make conscious choices, and provide individual support in study and career guidance when needed. Together with other teachers, you will be responsible for admissions, study planning, and quality assurance of participants' certificates and qualifications, as well as collaborating with colleagues and external actors to highlight the folk high school as a pathway to individual goals.

The position is a holiday service, and working hours are daytime Monday to Friday. Interviews will be held on April 1 and 2.

About You

You have a teaching license with the authority to teach English at the upper secondary level, or other education that the employer assesses as equivalent. If you also have training as a study and career counselor or experience in study and career guidance, we see it as a plus.

We also see it as an advantage if you have the authority to teach Swedish at the upper secondary level or experience teaching Swedish or other subjects. Furthermore, we would like you to have previous experience working in folk high schools or working with adult participants with neuropsychiatric disabilities, as well as experience with Schoolsoft.

As a person, you are persistent and structured, with the ability to independently organize and prioritize your work to create long-term results. You find it easy to build strong relationships and are responsive to the individual needs of the participants, which allows you to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. You take a holistic view, both in teaching and in the personal development of the participants, and you thrive in a collaborative work climate where you actively contribute to common goals and development together with colleagues.

Kalmar Folk High School has a program with general courses at the primary and upper secondary levels focusing on qualification-giving studies and with a focus on music or singing. The school also offers courses for various target groups, such as people with intellectual disabilities, seniors, unemployed individuals, participants who want to develop their musical skills, or train to become a teacher's assistant or medical secretary.

In the education administration area, there are five basic units, library development, and the four folk high schools: Gamleby Folk High School, Kalmar Folk High School, Vimmerby Folk High School, and Öland Folk High School. The folk high schools offer a wide range of education that contributes to raising the educational level in the region. Library development initiates, leads, and coordinates the region's joint development work in the library area. We are part of the regional development administration that works together on growth and development issues in Kalmar County.
