Teach Social Studies and History at Gamleby Folkhögskola

Do you want to contribute to the development of our general course in a creative and scenic study environment? Gamleby Folkhögskola is now looking for someone to teach social studies and history, but the position may also involve teaching one or more of our special courses.

Your responsibilities include planning, conducting, and evaluating teaching both independently and in collaboration with colleagues in the work team. We work thematically and interdisciplinary, continuously developing teaching through joint development work. The position includes active mentorship where you follow the participants' studies and development over time. You coach and support the participants in their learning, contribute to their personal development, and help them achieve their set study goals.

About You

We are looking for someone with a teaching license, qualified to teach social studies and history, and who has experience teaching at the high school or middle school level. Experience from folk high schools or other schools with boarding is an advantage. If you have worked as a lead teacher or held a role with pedagogical development responsibility, we see it as a benefit.

You are accustomed to using digital tools and administrative systems, such as Google Workspace, Schoolsoft, and tools for plagiarism and AI control. We would like you to have experience using generative AI in teaching or development work. You thrive in a role where you contribute to showcasing and marketing the activities at fairs, open houses, and in meetings with the surrounding community.

As a person, you are proactive and independently drive teaching and development work forward, contributing new ideas to the school's collective efforts. You are stable and secure in your professional role, can handle various situations in the classroom, and create a calm and safe learning environment. You easily build trusting relationships with both participants, colleagues, and partners. At the same time, you have good judgment and can make well-considered pedagogical assessments in complex situations.

You have a holistic view of education and see the connection between the participants' studies, their personal development, and the school's collective activities. Furthermore, you have problem-solving skills and can identify challenges in teaching, analyze causes, and find solutions together with colleagues and participants.

If you play an instrument or sing, that is a plus, as music and shared cultural activities are an important part of the school's social environment.

Your Future Workplace

Gamleby Folkhögskola is celebrating 150 years in 2026 and is beautifully situated by Gamlebyviken. Here, participants in general and special courses meet in a creative study environment characterized by our values of curiosity, participation, and sustainability.

Gamleby Folkhögskola is a relatively small school, and we actively work to create meetings between participants from different courses through joint activities. With us, there are great opportunities to influence both the participants' and the school's positive development. Teaching takes place in smaller study groups, which creates good conditions for building strong relationships between teachers and participants. To create a stimulating, active, and creative study environment, we value social pedagogical work, engagement in joint school activities, a vibrant boarding life, and cross-course collaborations.

We have a pleasant boarding house and a well-regarded kitchen at the school. The proximity to the archipelago and nature provides good opportunities for outdoor life and contributes to a safe and study-motivating environment.

Our teachers have a seasonal position, and working hours are from 08:00 to 16:30. In rare cases, weekend work may occur during events such as open house activities.

The education administration includes five base units, library development, and the four folk high schools: Gamleby Folkhögskola, Kalmar Folkhögskola, Vimmerby Folkhögskola, and Ölands Folkhögskola. The folk high schools offer a wide range of educational programs that contribute to raising the educational level in the region. Library development initiates, leads, and coordinates the region's joint development work in the library sector. We are part of the regional development administration that works together on growth and development issues in Kalmar County.

Region Kalmar County is responsible for health and medical care, dental care, folk high schools, culture, public transport, and regional development. We have over 7,000 employees who all work together for a healthier, safer, and richer life for the county's residents. Region Kalmar County offers all employees a 100% employment. If you work part-time but wish to work full-time, an extension of the position may be offered at another workplace.

We ask that you attach your CV, cover letter, and relevant educational certificates to your application. To ensure the quality of the recruitment process in Region Kalmar County, we ask that you apply for the position in our recruitment system and not via email or in paper format.

We welcome calls from those interested in the job but decline calls from those selling ads and recruitment services.
