Youth Coach

Here, you can make a real difference for young people who need support to break negative patterns and find new paths forward. You will be part of an experienced team where collaboration and knowledge exchange are a natural part of everyday life.

Your Responsibilities

As a youth coach, you will spend your working hours meeting young people in their daily lives and providing support where needed, for example, at school, during leisure time, or at home. The target group is young people with norm-breaking behavior, such as drug use or serious crime. You see the whole individual's context and work to reduce risk factors and build and strengthen protective factors.

Your support for the youth may involve motivating them to attend school, participating in treatment initiatives and leisure activities, and providing emotional support during setbacks. This can include direct support, such as homework help or assistance in applying for summer jobs, as well as strengthening their connection to society. This can be done by providing the young person with an expanded social network and an introduction to new prosocial contexts.

You will work on behalf of the social services authority in collaboration with the young person's social worker and family therapist in outpatient care. Working hours are flexible, which may include both daytime and some evening work.

Your Qualifications

You are confident in yourself and your professional role and can make independent assessments while knowing when to seek help. You are skilled in building relationships and comfortable establishing a mentoring relationship with at-risk youth. You have a degree in social work or another academic degree in a relevant field, such as behavioral science, or you have experience working in a similar role. It is an advantage if you have completed treatment-oriented training such as MI, CBT, solution-focused methods, or skills programs. To document your work, you need good knowledge of Swedish, and if you speak multiple languages, that is a plus. You have worked with youth exhibiting norm-breaking behavior, such as substance abuse and criminality. In collaboration with various parties, you are attentive and eager to find common solutions for the youth and their families. In this position, you need to be able to travel to the different contexts where the youth are located, so you must have a valid driver's license and driving experience.

Before you can be employed, you need to present an approved extract from the police criminal record.
