Planning Staff, Ministry for Foreign Affairs

Are you interested in foreign and security policy issues and developing Swedish interests in relations with other countries? Do you have experience with the government budget process, planning, and follow-up? We offer a central and varied position in a developing and eventful environment.

The Planning Staff has overall responsibility for budget coordination in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. As a budget coordinator, you will be responsible for the policy area of international cooperation, expenditure area 5. The activities include, among other things, Sweden's contributions to international organizations, foreign and security policy initiatives, peace and security-promoting efforts, as well as the Inspectorate for Strategic Products (ISP) and the Swedish Institute (SI).

You will have many points of contact within the ministry as well as within the Government Offices and lead networks for officials responsible for activities within the expenditure area.

As a budget coordinator with us, you will play a central role in the ministry's work with the government budget process, follow-up, resource allocation, and development work. The work is process-driven, but given changes in the external environment and political priorities, rapid handling may be required, as well as management of strategic changes.

Main tasks/responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for driving and coordinating the MFA's work with expenditure area 5,
  • planning, following up, and forecasting for the activities,
  • establishing timelines for the annual work with the budget process, including the expenditure area's appropriation letter,
  • responsibility for development and efficiency work within the expenditure area.

Your background

We are looking for someone with an academic education with an economic focus or equivalent and an interest in social issues. You have experience working with the government budget process and governance issues. Experience in similar work in the Government Offices or another government agency is an advantage.

Your qualities

You have good analytical skills, are quality-conscious, meticulous, and work independently. You are results-oriented with a high work capacity and have the ability to see the whole and connections in complex issues. You can express yourself both verbally and in writing. You have good collaboration skills, sound judgment, and high integrity.

Start as soon as possible or by agreement. We offer a permanent position that begins with a six-month probationary period. The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
