Job Responsibilities

The Urban Development unit is new since the beginning of 2025 and currently has seven employees and a unit manager.

The unit is part of the Property & Urban Development department, which is responsible for leading the administration's work from early urban development to completed buildings. The department is also responsible for managing, developing, and leasing the administration's land and buildings. The City of Gothenburg currently has over 150 facilities consisting of sports, ice, and swimming halls, wellness facilities, ball fields, and sports areas. As the city grows, we are further developing our sports areas and monitoring and driving the administration's interests and issues in various stages and processes of community development. The work is based on how we can best create and maintain conditions for good public health and meaningful leisure for the citizens of Gothenburg and community associations. We are part of the city's long-term work to create a more equal and sustainable city and reduce disparities in living conditions.

In the role of Development Leader, you will work across the administration with long-term facility supply in urban development processes, development of sports areas, and projects in early stages. The unit is also responsible for monitoring trends in urban development.

As a Development Leader, you will initiate and lead development work internally within the administration, as well as in collaboration with other city administrations and external stakeholders. Together with your colleagues, you will drive issues related to public health, sports, and the needs of community associations in the city's urban development processes and other strategic forums. An important part of the role is to work on the long-term development of our sports areas and facilities to meet future needs. Here, dialogue, trend monitoring, and local knowledge are key. We also support community associations in developing their facilities and activity areas. In this role, competence and the ability to engage with community associations and other local stakeholders are essential.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a university or college degree in urban planning, such as a community planner or another higher education that the employer deems equivalent. You have several years of experience in urban development and have initiated and driven development work. It is advantageous if you have knowledge of planning and building laws, some knowledge of construction technical issues, and have worked in a politically governed organization. We also consider it advantageous if you have experience in areas such as public health, community associations, sustainability work, place or area development, and urban development of sports halls, ice rinks, swimming pools, or sports areas.

To succeed in the role, we see that you are analytical and a good problem solver, you think and act strategically and come up with new approaches to work-related issues. You are self-driven and structured, with a good ability to plan and prioritize your work effectively. We also see that you have the ability to see the big picture and consider multiple perspectives, and you have a good ability to make correct assessments regarding the best interests of the organization and the location. You are also attentive and clear in your communication and argumentation, enjoy having many points of contact, and find it easy to build trust and have a high ability to collaborate. It is important that you are a good communicator and can express yourself well in speech and writing.
