We are now looking for up to 20 teaching assistants in computer science for the Department of Computer Science.

About the job

The position involves teaching in one or more of the following courses/areas: Programming, Programming Languages, Data Structures and Algorithms, Projects, and Operating Systems. Additionally, it includes assisting with course organization.

You will be part of a teaching team that works to support students primarily in programming courses and participate in the development of modern technical teaching tools to assist teachers and students.

About you

To be employed as a teaching assistant, you must be admitted to undergraduate or graduate studies. A teaching assistant position requires that the employee is studying at Linköping University. The work is primarily performed on-site.

Experience with the university's and department's working methods and processes, as well as a pedagogical interest and experience, is advantageous, as the systems we use often relate to this area.

It is required that you have completed the course or a corresponding course that you will teach. That is, courses in one or more of the following:

  • Imperative Programming (C++, Python, Ada)
  • Object-Oriented Programming (Java, C++)
  • Data Structures and Algorithms (Java, C++)
  • Problem Solving and Programming (C++, Python, Ada)
  • Handling of computer environments, supervision in project courses, operating systems.

We are looking for someone who is interested in developing, sharing knowledge, and working with students. Since you will collaborate with both colleagues and students, initiative and teamwork skills are important qualities to possess. You are pedagogically interested with a focus on computer science and are knowledgeable in programming and interested in participating in projects and assisting with the systems that the UPP group uses and develops, with the aim of streamlining teaching. This also includes handling and administration of the computer-based exam system used by the group. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach in both Swedish and English.

Your workplace

The Department of Computer Science (IDA) was founded in 1983, but our roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in Northern Europe. Our research covers a wide range of areas, from fundamental computer science to applied fields. The extensive research also influences our undergraduate and graduate education, leading us to offer courses within several civil and engineering programs, as well as programs in innovative programming, cognitive science, systems science, and statistics. You will work in the Software and Systems department (SaS), which conducts research and teaching in seven areas. These are software engineering, programming environments, systems software, embedded software and hardware systems, computer systems engineering, real-time systems, theoretical computer science, and didactics in programming. You will belong to the teaching group for programming and programming didactics (UPP), which is responsible for most of the department's foundational courses in programming, data structures, and algorithms, as well as some more advanced courses in various areas.

About the employment

The position is a temporary employment for 3-6 months during the autumn semester of 2026. The workload is up to 50% of full-time, according to agreement.

Start date according to agreement.

A teaching assistant position is regulated in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
