We are looking for a research assistant focused on unmanned aviation.
About the job
We are seeking an engaged research assistant who wants to be part of our team and contribute to our ongoing research in Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM). In this role, your main responsibility will be the practical development of advanced simulations and prototypes that help us test and validate new UTM concepts. You will build new tools from scratch and maintain and further develop our existing simulation platforms. This requires strong technical skills, particularly in Python and web stack technologies (such as JavaScript), to transform theoretical models into functional and testable software in close collaboration with our research group.
In addition to software development, you will also work on the academic side of our projects. We are looking for a candidate with strong analytical skills who can read, understand, and synthesize complex technical research articles. You will actively use this literature to support your development work and collaborate directly with our researchers to write and publish new scientific articles. The role requires strong technical ownership and offers an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of practical software development and academic research.
About you
We are looking for someone who is structured, quality-conscious, and has good specialist competence in the relevant field. We also see that you are solution-oriented and analytical, with a good ability to work with and analyze both advanced texts and numbers.
This position requires that you have:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in research within Air Traffic Management
- Programming skills:
- Python
- Web stack (JavaScript/TypeScript)
- Experience in developing ML models
It is advantageous if you also have:
- Experience publishing scientific articles in international conferences or journals, especially publications in Air Traffic Management
- Knowledge of optimization techniques
- Knowledge in design and analysis of algorithms
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
Your workplace
You will belong to the Department of Technology and Natural Sciences (ITN), known for its activities in logistics, visualization, and organic electronics. We combine academic excellence with close collaboration with the surrounding community.
The position is part of the Department of Communication and Transport Systems (KTS), one of the largest research and educational environments in the transport field in the Nordic countries. The activities are conducted within the units of Traffic Systems, Quantitative Logistics, Aviation Logistics, Railways and Public Transport, Mobile Telecommunications, Construction Logistics, and Construction Technology.
The research is primarily externally funded and conducted in close collaboration with industry, authorities, and society. At the undergraduate level, we are responsible for six educational programs.
You will belong to the Aviation Logistics unit and the research group focusing on research in Air Traffic Management, both for conventional aviation and the new unmanned Urban Air Mobility.
